Giuliani was not conservative in most areas, including some very important to me (he’s not pro-life, for example), but he did do a good job getting NYC shaped up after the depredations of years of liberals

There is a lot of misunderstanding on this Republican vs Conservative thing. For the most part the Republican Party should be the home of the conservatives. This is where conservatives can be the most effective. But there are certain areas that conservatives cannot win. New York City is one of those. I suspect that Giuliani is more conservative than most people think. But if he were to have run as a orthodox conservative, he could not have been elected Mayor of New York. Giuliani would be a good governor of New York especially if New York could get a decent state legislature.

Let's all hope Hoffman wins Tuesday.

Yes, that's very true. I'm from NYC and was living there when Giuliani ran, and people voted for him because of a very narrow range of "conservative" issues, mostly law and order and reducing the NYC welfare state. But it worked.

There certainly is. It's OK when RINOs support conservatives. That's the real meaning of the Big Tent.

More people identify themselves as "conservative" than any other political position. We must take advantage of that. We certainly must not exclude others who are supporting us. Rudy G. works as a follower.
