NY-23 2009: America has changed [Hoffman concedes defeat to Owens]
Doug Hoffman for Congress ^ | 2009-11-04

Posted on 11/03/2009 9:58:12 PM PST by rabscuttle385

America has changed, and you have helped. Although we did not succeed in winning this election, we have succeeded in making sure political parties and special interests no longer take the people for granted. I believe we have sent a powerful message and laid the groundwork for future conservative campaigns.

I congratulate Bill Owens on a hard won victory. In our tradition of free elections, our country continues. And although Bill Owens has won, I believe America is turning the page to a new dawn.

The ideas of freedom, sound fiscal management and citizen government have sprung back into our consciousness. Our founding fathers would be proud of New York 23. It was here that our principles, those that have been the foundation of our nation, came back to life with a vengeance. And it was here that the people rose up against the political bosses who tried to impose their will. It was here that people reached out to control their own destinies again.

Despite the election results, I am optimistic for our future, because now I know that I am not alone in wanting to repair our great nation. Throughout this campaign I have been inspired by the outpouring of support and the intensity of that support.

I’ve met many different people in this campaign, from many walks of life and many professions; each with a different personal story to share. Yet we are all united in the belief that by participating in democracy, we could inspire change.

I urge that no one feel defeated, for this was only one of many elections. We came close, we put our agenda in front of the nation and the nation took notice. The worse thing we could do now, is not continue forward. Next year there are other elections and other candidates who have drawn inspiration from our efforts.

I would like to thank all of you who placed your faith in me, who worked tirelessly and shared your enthusiasm with those around you. You are all patriots, you have all stood up for your country and I am honored to stand among you.

Thank you,

It is time for the donut eating traitor to give back the money she took from donors and from the party.

Hanging on would have kept this race in public view for a few more days or weeks. Hoffman could have looked like a victim of ACORN games. The PR value of him hanging in there would have been HUGE. They just don't get it in NY...

I think he would have had to win 80% of the 11,000 votes.

"Yours might have won, but my team’s hopes of fixing what’s wrong with the GOP lost in a bad way."

I think our team's hopes of fixing what's wrong with the GOP is NOT a loss!!

We are not going away & we WILL take our party back. The big losers will be the RNC if they don't wake up.

Our fight is just beginning & we are not going to sit quietly & let them run a fiasco election like this again!!

WTF are you talking about? Scozzafava would have been the only worse outcome from what we got.

This is the one, and only one, thing I can admire about Franken. The son of a female dog hung in there until he won. THAT, is testosterone...

PREACH!

:)

I can’t stand the sour puss talk because of one race when Hoffman just got into the race 30 days ago.

Great summary - thanks. The only thing Hoffman screwed up on was conceding - he should have waited a few days to let the actual votes show how close he really came.

I don’t think this is over yet. It was too soon for him to concede.

Agreed. He fought a good fight.

And helped to inspire social conservatives across the country to fight for what is right harder than ever against the social liberals of the Neocon Country Club RINO Republican Establishment.

If that lard *ssed bimbo had won, the RINOs would have had real momentum against Conservatives. This is the second best outcome and we can live with it. Hoffman in 2010!!!!!

I would have liked to see Hoffman drag this election through the mud for a few recounts... Go to court every week with a new challenge... Eyeball every last “absentee ballot”, and claim ACORN and the Black Panthers fixed the election for the scumbag Owens.

In other words, play the game the way the rats do.
Give them some of their own medicine, right upside the head.

Of the 6% that Scuzzi got, probably 5% were absentee ballots that were cast before she quit.

Absolutely. The media attention would have shifted from ObamaCare to this recount and wavering votes would have backed away until the race was decided. We lost a HUGE PR opportunity here.

Fantastic summary! Well said!

It was also shown what a marginal hold on the Party RINOs really have. Doug got the lion’s share of support from the Republican side. Dede had the party hacks and (R) uber alles types. They were the splitters. They were the inflexible extremists who couldn’t be part of a team effort. Who wanted power first and chummy relations with the Dems not far behind. Like Rush was saying earlier today about other RINO players: they walked out of their own big tent.
