Long-time Repubs just habitually pull the lever for the “R” (Scuzzy was still on the ballot.) It was a strategic loss, not a referendum on conservatism.
Big Losers are
all johnny endorse latelies.
Mr. Steele
the MSM
Busy body old ladies of the local GOP that put in their RINO friend.
Yeah alot of them just do a party pull.
exactly
how many of the voters look for an R or D and then vote .
Thousands up there I bet, my Dem mother in law is the same, totally clueless and yet keeps voting Dem.
It is high time to get rid of the letters after names and make voters actually do some research before voting.
Obama gave a plum appointment to the GOPer who held this office previously giving an opening for the Dem to pick up this seat. Local Republican leaders appointed a liberal to run. National conservatives outed her and supported the real conservative in the race. Result, Obama strategy worked and they get another seat at least until next November. I guess you have to grudgingly say it is a short term victory for Obama.
Agreed. This is a very conservative district except for the handful of college towns like Potsdam, Plattsburg, and Canton. Many of the votes are absentee because of Fort Drum Military Base, home of the 10th Mountain Divison. Owens won by 2% and Scuzzy drew 5% simply because her name was in the ballot. If Scuzzy had not been appointed to run in the first place, Hoffman would have won by a landslide.
If you really want to see the trend, look at the local elections in New York (county, city, town). In Westchester County, three-term County Executive Andrew Spano (D) lost to Bob Astorino (R) 57% to 43%. Again, the THREE-TERM INCUMBANT, DEMOCRAT ANDY SPANO, LOSSES TO THE REPUBLICAN CHALLENGER. This is significant because Westchester County, with a population of about 900,000, is the very next county north of the Bronx, and while the northern part of the county is relatively conservative, much of the central and southern parts of the county is extreme-urban ACORN territory.
I also note that in Dutchess County (three counties north of the Bronx), voters threw out the RAT controlled county legislature and replaced it with a veto-proof GOP legislature. (I also heard of similar results in several other suburban NYC counties). In addition, the RATS lost control of the City Council for the City of Poughkeepsie (another urban-cesspool ACORN stronghold), RATS lost control of nearly every town board in the County where they had been in the majority, and the GOP retained or gained on every town board where they had been in the majority.
I think you mean it was a tactical loss. “Strategic” refers to things of long-lasting, fundamental, game-changing import. “Tactical” refers to temporary, local, balance-of-power-preserving events.
