'2012' maker destroys Vatican, Jesus, but leaves shrine in Mecca alone.
The maker of the upcoming apocalyptic film "2012" has conceded he enjoyed orchestrating the visual disintegration of the world's religious symbols, such as the Vatican and the famous statue of Jesus overlooking Rio de Janeiro.
But he left an Islamic symbol alone because he feared the reaction from the Muslim world.
In an interview with the online SciFiWire website, Roland Emmerich said he had considered including the destruction of the Kaaba, the cube-shaped structure in Mecca worshiped by Muslims as being built by Abraham and his son Ishmael.
"Well, I wanted to do that, I have to admit," Emmerich said. "But my co-writer Harald [Kloser] said I will not have a fatwa on my head because of a movie. And he was right. ... We have to all ... in the Western world ... think about this."

At least us keyboard warriors can blow up Mecca. Since 9/11 I’ve seen a few photoshops of that.

I wouldn't say he is a coward. All he did is not unnecessarily put himself and his family in the crosshairs of madmen. If I were making a fictional movie about the end of the world, aliens, super-spies, zombies ...whatever ...I also would not needlessly put something in there that could lead to my death. Now, if I was making a documentary on the travails and perils of Islam, then as a factual documentary I would be amiss to leave out truth regarding that sad, acerbic and terrible faith. Damn the consequences, I would include an objective overview of the murderous and restrictive religion ...if I was making a documentary. However, I would not put such if I was making a pop-corn armaggedon thriller that has waves cresting the Himalayas.
Thus I comprehend why he did not do that, and plan to watch the movie and laugh at people flying in between collapsing buildings rather than just gaining altitude. After all, I will be paying for some humorous entertainment rather than to see if the director will be 'brave' enough to squash Mecca on celluloid. If I want to see the truth about Islam there are a number of powerful documentaries and film, includig one from a brave dutchman who was stabbed for it and killed.

My first reaction is coward. But then Christians and Jews don't normally chop peoples heads off on an ignorant whim.

So how does this awful filmmaker respond when he realizes Muslims would try to blow him up for a fictional destruction of their big block? Why, he blows up the symbols of religions which haven't threatened him or done him any harm.
I'm not saying he should be blowing up Muslim sites in his stupid movies, but his response to it is revealing of the Hollywood mindset.

I would say he is coward. He could have made it more ‘neutral’ by destroying public symbols such as the Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, and Statue of Liberty, and that’s enough to show the effects he needs about the end of the world. By showing the Vatican and Jesus the King being destroyed, but not the Kabah or other religions’ symbols, plus his own admission that he was intending to do so but decided against it, he showed the degree of his fear toward certain religions.

This is the guy that did “Independence Day”.
He had a scene where after the destruction of DC, there was a confused man who looked like Lyle Lovett, who muttered some incomprehensibles, while clutching a Bible.
During his “commentary”, when he reached this scene, Roland went silent.
Agreed. He should have destroyed secular sites.
