My feeling from the beginning was that this was a form of terrorism perpetrated by Islamic soldiers acting as a small group.’
My further conviction , learning of the name Malik Nadal Hasan, was that this was not a ME or Egyptian, or Iraqi born Muslim, but a recent convert, probably African-American.

How many years in the Army does it take to become a Major? My dad went from basic training to Major in about ten years. He got his oak leaves in 1963.

This guy was a Medical Corps employee of Darnall Army Medical Center at Ft. Hood. I looked him up.
The career path is different for Medical Corps officers. Medical Doctors can come in as Captains, and might be promoted to Major with much less than 10 years of service. I don’t know the details of the MC career timeline.

It is not unusual for those who decide to become mental health professionals to be people who have had mental health issues themselves.
What bothers me is this shooter apparently was more willing to kill soldiers wearing the same uniform as himself, that those wearing the uniform of our enemy.
