He probably figured his seat was as safe given that Crazy Fairfax has gone blue. Until last Tuesday when, his district went for McDonnell and no doubt blew his little mind.

Agreed. He won his seat with a hair less than 55% of the vote. McDonnell took his district by a hair more than 55%.

He's on the record, post-election, as saying that the Dems need to pass HRC **NOW** to motivate their base and get them to the polls in 2010. Which is a desperation move spurred by analysis showing him in very dire straits, imho.
