FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) ― Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.

The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."

Obama should have been there yesterday and he knows it.

I respectfully disagree. Whether he 'knows' he should have visited is unknown, but the fact is, he couldn't care less. He's a narcissist, and such a photo opportunity would focus attention more on the injured and wounded than on him. Wrong formula for a photo op...

Oh so glad this was posted!!! I just read it at my local TV news website - buried down in the article - not the headline.

http://www.wral.com/news/national_world/national/story/6368735/

Title of the article: Shock and Sadness grip tight-knit Fort Hood community.

Just the way President Bush would want it - NOT a headline - not really publicized. Just doing what ANY REAL PRESIDENT of the USA would do - what any REAL Commander in Chief would do - without the photographers and with hardly any notice.

(Sadly, I had also read in 2 places that Zero IS GOING TO FT. HOOD - read it here on FR linked article but cannot for the life of me find the sources).

Anyway - how awful for our wonderful military people to have to endure the leadership (guffaw) by someone who obviously loathes the United States of America and everything they stand for! I hope the soldiers at Ft. Hood will find creative ways to stay away if Zero does show up.

You are so right faucetman. I disagreed with some of President Bush’s spending and his stance on illegal immigration, but he was and still is PRESIDENTIAL!!! Miss him isn’t even the right words!!

“Obama should have been there yesterday and he knows it.”

Cept for the fact that he is a cold hearted jerk who loves jeremiah wright, and like michelle, isn’t proud of this country. He wouldn’t go, but President Bush’s visit MIGHT change his mind for a photo-op.

many on the right don’t like W, but he is a man of honor...

Don't mistake disappointment for dislike. I'm one of those faithful Bush supporters who finally dropped away in the 2nd term. He simply wasn't there for the conservative cause. But 'dislike' for the man? Never. 'Disappointment' in his policies? Yes!

Good for President Bush and Mrs. Bush.

Truth be told, probably few of the wounded soldiers really care to see the current White House resident, but he still should have made the trip. It's his job and his moral responsibility.

Yesterday I found a photo of President Bush visiting Fort Hood back in 2003. Looking at the photo, I so wished that he would visit them again now.

I'm in tears now knowing that he did.

What a beautiful man. Our soldiers needs all the support they can get. Know that someone does care.

Thank you President Bush and Mrs Laura. Thank you.

But he looked good at the Yankees parade after leading them to the World Series Championship after pitching four complete game wins, and driving in all seven runs in Game Six, making him Series MVP.

Obama has to wait until the shooter is out of his coma...then figure out a way to visit him and not the others.

George W. Bush's quiet trip to visit the wounded reminds me of the very different conduct by Bill Clinton in 2001. He was in Australia at the time of the 9/11 attacks and of course normal airplane travel was not possible for several days after that. Bush made special arrangements to allow Clinton to get back to the US. Clinton repaid the favor by rushing to New York to visit Ground Zero ahead of Bush.

Oh my.

Over the years my disagreements with GWB were frequent- but one thing I never doubted- he loved his troops.

This is a very touching thing for him to do and will be greatly appreciated.

Ya know, you may be the first to state the obvious; that this IS Bush’s fault.

Bush got us into Iqaq, Zero inherited this situation; were it not for Bush and the MOUNTAIN of issues Zero has to deal with, we could have had a prior “learning moment” and prevented this.

Hasan is simply a disturbed victim of Bush’s legacy. That legacy and the pain Hasan had to deal with caused his PRE-traumatic stress syndrome ... which drove him to buy the weapon, the ammunition and the weeks of practice time at the range while he plotted this premeditated first degree murder/homicide. Completely understandable if you put yourself in Hasan’s shoes.

This is a huge PR disaster for Zero. And Bush did it out of his Christian heart.

The libs will spin this somehow saying Bush overstepped his role.

My thought on the Bush’s visiting together on a Friday night: “That’s a date night I can believe in.”
