Dear Friends,

Tonight I cast a historic vote to overhaul America’s failing healthcare system to improve the healthcare of all Americans. This bill prohibits exclusions based on preexisting conditions and ensures American families will no longer be one illness or job loss away from bankruptcy. It also protects America’s senior citizens by fixing the donut hole sooner and allowing more drug price-negotiation to ensure seniors are getting the best prices for their medications. For the first time in our nation’s history, we will say that every American deserves access to affordable quality healthcare.

I also believe that controlling escalating healthcare costs is essential to getting our nation’s fiscal picture under control. As a small business owner, and father of five, who has struggled to deal with rapidly increasing healthcare expenses, I am extremely sensitive to the cost of healthcare in this nation.

Over the past several months I have held more than 50 meetings with constituents, business and community leaders and healthcare professionals throughout my district. As a result of this input, H.R. 3962 is much improved over the original House bill that was introduced over the summer. It makes healthcare coverage more affordable to individuals and businesses as well as constraining costs much more than the original legislation.

I have received assurance from House leadership and the Administration that additional cost containment measures will occur in the final conference agreement. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure the plan is more sustainable over the long-term. The status quo is not an option. I’m excited to have played a role today in moving this process forward and continuing to craft a plan that accomplishes our two main priorities: increasing the quality and accessibility of healthcare and reducing costs for Oregon families, small businesses and our nation as a whole.

As always feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this bill or any other issues before the United States Congress. It's a pleasure you represent you in Washington D.C.

“More affordable” means paying $15,000 per year for a “policy” or going to jail?
Has this guy read the bill?

no, he is a d**sh**

And he doesn’t realize now that he is cutting the 2.3% profit margin for health insurance to .08% that they are all going to drop coverage.

Public Option will be the only game in town soon. It is a simple business decision.

They get better return on their money from the stock market investing in companies in China, Russia, and Brazil.

Oh how the world has been turned upside down.

Dear Voter,

Let’s face it: I love stepping on you. Nothing makes me happier than the thought of returning to my million dollar mansion while most of you are worried about making ends meet.

Some of you are threatening not to vote for me next election. That’s okay - I’ve got tons of money from poor, blue collar working joes like George Soros and real honest grassroots organizations like ACORN who will help me out.

You have a nice day. :)

Yes, if you are sick without healthcare you may be bankrupt, with this bill you will be bankrupt.

One is a possibility, the other is a certainty.

The democrat congressmen in the House know little or nothing about economics. And how can they ignore the history of medicare which has vastly overrun it’s original cost estimates? These guys are crazy if they think this legislation will bring down health care costs. The actual cost of this program will explode way beyond original estimates. We’re rapidly moving towards another financial crisis caused by massive uncontrolled budget deficits. I think that’s going to start to hit next year when the bond market will be looking for a deficit reduction plan but will not get any plan from Washington ahead of the 2010 election.

Healthcare Bill: Pay for a Plan or Go to Jail

EXCERPT - from the article I posted earlier today:

In a letter dated November 5, the Joint Committee on Taxation informed Congressman Camp that there is a broad range of civil and criminal penalties applicable to any American who fails to purchase a health insurance policy that passes legislative muster, or as euphemistically styled in the bill itself: “acceptable health insurance coverage.” As reported by the Congressional Budget Office, the lowest annual cost of an approved family non-group policy would be approximately $15,000. That is to say, currently written in the bill under consideration, if a family’s health insurance plan doesn’t cost at least $15,000 a year, then you are breaking the law and will be held accountable.

As for just exactly what a “qualified plan” will require, no one is quite sure and those who should be (the elected representatives who will be voting for or against the bill) probably haven’t read the complete text because they can’t fit the bill in their briefcases as it is a hefty 1,990 pages.

From WSJ.com:

“An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income. A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income. Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer.”

The congressmen have lost their minds. Individuals making $44K can’t afford $5,300 per year in premiums. They won’t be able to find the money for those premiums even if they’re tax deductable. Families making $102K won’t be able to pay $15K per year in premiums...not if they have a mortgage payment to make. The democrat congressmen have lost their minds...they’re insane. People won’t be able to pay those kind of premiums. That’s exactly what I thought this bill would do—pull in a lot of money from insured people to pay for uninsured people. It’s a giant income redistribution scheme. I don’t think this bill will pass the senate. The whole thing is insane.
