The Army psychiatrist accused of the Fort Hood massacre apparently acted alone and without outside direction in the attack, investigative officials said Monday evening. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan will be charged by the U.S. military rather than in a civilian court, they said.
Although investigative officials portrayed Hasan as a lone wolf, the investigators and a U.S. official disclosed that Hasan communicated 10 to 20 times with a radical imam overseas who in the past came under scrutiny for possible links to terror groups. The investigative officials said the communications began last year and continued into this year and "were consistent with the subject matter of his research," apparently on the effects of U.S. combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The U.S. official said the communications were with the radical imam, Anwar al-Awlaki.
U.S. officials were aware of the communications since last year, but no formal investigation was ever opened based on them, the officials said. They said that FBI Director Robert Mueller has ordered an internal review of the bureau's handling of the Hasan information.
The officials spoke Monday evening on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation

He may have acted alone, but he seemed to get some encouragement from certain parties, and other parties saw warning signs and may have failed to act to proactively - for many reasons. “Alone” may not always mean “in a vacuum”. I don’t think he was in a vacuum.
He did not act alone.

Hasan was a Mujahid, having received those teachings from a Jihadi teacher through specific Hadith transmission. Thise teachings are not run of the mill, they are for those who have decided to follow the path of spiritual jihad, and later chose to sacrifice themselves and their victims to have an after life basking in the radiance of ALLAH.
Where did Hasan get those teachings. Where did he secretly practise them, and whio was it that visited him on the morning of the religious genocide Hasha finally perpetrated?
Hassan can tell us, he is alive. I believe that Hasan was visited by his jihadi preceptor who gave him the last transmission of Hadith prayer, so that Hasan's soul could be possessed by Allah as he slaughtered innocent, unarmed men and women.
THAT IS NOT ACTING ALONE, and its time that we damn well acknowledged it and started to root out these Mujahid secret sleepers who ARE NOW ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY!
Investigators have not found any photo ID cards issued to Hasan by Al Qaeda Inc., so he certainly cannot be called an Islamic terrorist.

however...
I wanna know how a guy w/ “a handgun” could get off that many shots and do that much damage. I mean, did he have 2 handguns and never give people a chance to rush him? Was this an automatic handgun, or did he just pull the trigger very quickly?
That many bullets... and the gov’t story of his arms... doesn’t make sense to me.
Does the AP have any idea if Hasan will get promoted again?
This is the gun he used. They make 10, 20, or 30-round detachable box magazines for it. Shooting as fast as he could it would not take long.
My one handgun only holds seven rds per mag. I can go through three mags, and fire off 21 shots in about seventeen to 20 seconds. That isn’t particularly fast shooting. I have to rack the slide for each magazine I slap in.
I think Hasan’s gun held 20 rds, and he practiced at the range often. I don’t find it hard to believe that he would be able to shoot very quickly, drop a mag, pop one in, and rack the slide in way less time than I.

Now we keep hearing from liberal sources that the Dar al-Hijrah Mosque is the the largest mosque on the East Coast, and it’s only a coincidence that all three men attended at the same time. This is an obvious error in forensics and logic. It would not be remarkable that any two muslims attended the same mosque, especially on this large. What IS remarkable is first that there have been two major terrorist attacks in this country in the last nine years. Both were motivated by the same religious interpretation. All the terrorists had contact with the same imam during the same time period. What would be truely remarkable is if their paths HAD never crossed. To begin with this transparent a lie (or to believe it and report it as fact) is the definition of leading with your chin.
