> “self-esteem”

When I was growing up, we had self-RESPECT.

Respect is the result of ACCOMPLISHMENT!

“Self esteem” is vanity, based on NOTHING.

It’s just another word for “NARCISSISM”, from whence I believe we got the word “SISSY”.

“SISSY” was THE WORST pejorative by far.

No ethnic pejorative came near. It was ALWAYS a fighting word.

Yes, all true. If one boy called another a “sissy” in our neighborhood, a fight generally ensued. Even we girls didn’t like to be called “sissy” or “sissy girl”, although we didn’t has physical fights over it since we were being raised with feminine dignity, something also lost today. Now music is written about “ho’s” and these young women seem to like it fine. When I was growing up, the worst thing you could call a girl was a whore. Calling a girl such a thing brought a visit from her father to the father of the perpetrator of the insult. That’s when it was expected that there was a father.
