One of the movie or tv versions of Pride and Prejudice, (A Jane Austen novel), ends with a wedding, in which the groom throws a handful of coins into the air to the wedding guests. I always assumed that was some sort of tradition. It sounds to me like this couple went to a lot of trouble to have a special wedding, even to the point of NOT inviting one of the main troublemakers, who apparently crashed it anyway and attacked the father of the groom.
