When the shooter becomes the victim: Victimology gives Maj. Hasan a pass
The Washington Times ^ | November 12, 2009 | Editorial

A disturbing story line is taking shape in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre. Some are trying to explain suspect Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's motives for reportedly gunning down 13 people in cold blood by ignoring the ideology of hate that sanctified the killings. Instead, we're supposed to seek out the "real reasons."

It's the typical victimology: Bemoan the perpetrator's troubles and then sprinkle liberally with pop psychology. Maj. Hasan supposedly felt alienated and oppressed because people did not understand his faith. They discriminated against and taunted him, then they keyed his car. Hearing the horrors of war from the wounded at Walter Reed Army Medical Center disturbed him. Orders to deploy overseas added to the psychological pressure - we might call it pre-traumatic stress disorder. These and other factors reportedly drove Maj. Hasan to do what he is accused of doing. Yes, he is guilty, the argument goes, but doesn't society also share part of the blame? Aren't we all a little guilty?

What society ever in history didn’t have people that were picked on? Does such a society exist outside of Utopia? Seems like an awfully high standard to condemn America by. But it fits the narrative, so what the heck.

Well, it is an interesting strategy. "We don't care that you killed a lot of us, you poor pitiful victim."

It's not the strategy I would choose. But if we were consistent about it, I wonder what the long term psychological response of Islam would be. Would Islamists be shamed by being continually being cast as the victim? Would they relish in it? They do claim the part of victim a lot. Would our acknowledgment of their victim status make a difference?

I think not. The problem is victim-hood, attention, acknowledgment, or even change of western behavior is not their goal. Their goal is elimination of western culture and complete world domination.

Granting them victim status simply emboldens them. It enables them to continue shooting at us, even as we fail to take preventive steps. Or rather as we take the wrong preventive steps. Taking steps to stop racial or religious taunting or reduce their stress, is not going to change their religious goal or reduce the likelihood that they resort to violence. Their religion calls for violence.

Victimhood helps legitimize their violent actions even as it distracts from their real agenda.

I along with others predicted this crap right here on this sight.
No pass here. For every time they try and tell this lie we need to explain to everyone we know how this POS just “went muslim.”
Cowardly murder of unarmed people is exactly what “going muslim” is all about.
It has been happening all over the world for decades but the PC lying Aholes in Washington won't admit it.
Yes indeed, this coward shot a mass of unarmed people and now they want to make him the victim.
Sorry, he just went muslim..... This needs to be the reply each and every time the PC Aholes try to lie to us.

Political correctness, multiculturalism, and diversity are undermining many major institutions throughout the society. In this case, people died because of political correctness out of control.

And the mainstream media seems like they are disappointed he wasn’t a Christian right-wing extremist so they could go on their blame the right-wing extremists dance.

Best thing I've read in a long time. That WILL be quoted often and with gusto!!!

Using the Progressive's lingo: Islam is not really so much a religion in as much as it is having a muslim "perspective". You know, celebrate the deaths of all those who are non-muslim and make heroes out their murderers.

So who is at fault? Well as Obama said, “...should not jump to any conclusions” But we all know the truth. It is simple...Bush. That’s right George W. Bush is to blame. Heck we all know he resides in Texas. Ft. Hood is in Texas. So,there could be no other reason. It is only a matter of time before the “Mainline Media” picks it up....

It seems the only justifiable reason Psychiatrists are given the title of Doctor is so they can write prescriptions.

As far as understanding the workings of the mind they are less reliable than the weatherman.

This is political correctness all around.

First, they tell you to shut down your survival instinct in mapping out who the enemy is.

Now, after the enemy mows down 13 innocents they tell you to shut down your survival instinct again by claiming that you are bigoted, extreme, etc., in defining the enemy.

This is hard-left subversion clear-as-day and it will be our downfall.

Diversity for the sake of diversity, even at the cost of many of our good soldiers?

They seek to prevent you from forming a solidified resistance to their tearing-down of the US.

Their target is your survival instinct, for obvious reasons—confound that and you’ll happily destroy yourselves. They won’t have to fire a shot.

The quiet war continues, the body count will rise.

They’re killing you “for your own good”, can’t you see?
