I think a more apt analogy is as a member of the world's oldest profession, a "Woman in Red". Maybe a scarlot (harlot) letter.

No kidding! How the hell did red come to rep Republican???
Same as how dod GAY come to represent queers???

Repubs are neither RED nor or queers GAY.

Be very interesting to find out when the RED thing got started and by whom.

Actually, “Red” represented the party out of power at the time, and Blue was the party in power.

In 2000, Republicans were “red” because they were out of power.

However, because of all the ruckus and the creation of the concept of red and blue states, red stuck with the republicans.

We should have been blue since 2000, but it was permanantly set that way.
