Deputy police minister yesterday called on police to "shoot the bastards" as the country tries to bring its fearsome crime rates under control.
Despite outrage over the killing by police of a three-year-old boy at the weekend, Fikile Mbalula said innocent deaths were unavoidable.
Atlegang Phalane was hit in the chest when an officer who thought he saw a weapon opened fire.
According to reports his family were not allowed access to his body for several hours after the incident outside his home in Klipfontein, north of Johannesburg.
But Mr Mbalula told reporters at the parliament in Cape Town: "In the course of any duty the innocent will be victimised.
"In this particular situation where you are caught in combat with criminals, innocent people are going to die not deliberately but in the exchange of fire."
His comments will add to critics' concerns over the police's "shoot to kill" policy, but in a country where almost 50 people are murdered every day, declarations of toughness on crime are popular.
"We cannot say to the police, retreat," said Mr Mbalula. "We cannot say to South Africans, despair. Our job is to give people hope.
"Yes. Shoot the bastards. Hard-nut to crack, incorrigible bastards."
The ruling African National Congress has pledged to change the law to make officers' rights to use lethal force clearer, even though, as well as if lives are in danger, police are already entitled to shoot a fleeing suspect of violent or serious crime if that is the only way to arrest him.
If he dies the killing is classed as justifiable homicide.

I defer to G-d in all things. He and He alone determines what is good and what is evil (or "reprehinsible," in your words). The idea that objective good and objective evil exist independently of G-d's decrees is poppycock.
Whether you believe that God gave us our minds or we evolved to have those minds, we have the capacity to think, and use knowledge to better man's condition on this planet.
Sorry, but a person who doesn't believe in G-d can't "better" anything, because he has nothing to go by except his own subjective hang-ups. Not to mention that "betterment" cannot exist in a meaningless universe.

As if rejecting a false religion which bases itself on the True Religion means one is against the True Religion the false religion claims to build itself on! Communism was invented in Europe by Europeans. And there were an awful lot of Communist hell-holes in Eastern Europe not too long back (East Germany, for example). Just one tinhorn dictator after another.
Chr*stianity, on the other hand, was invented by heretical Jews in the Middle East. It was a universalistic religion that wanted to knock down all distinctions among peoples and did so until some idiots got the idea that it was somehow "the European religion."

But you weren't saying that SA was "just as racist as any other nation;" you were implying that it is Communist because Communism is simply in the genes and chromosomes of Africans. This is not only false historically (since Communism came from white Europe rather than Black Africa), but implies evolutionary polygenism as well.
Again, I maintain that chr*stianity makes a very poor foundation for racialism--other perhaps than the weakness of incarnationism, which makes G-d into whatever ethnicity one happens to be.

...I define it slightly differently...I call it the Anglo/European-Judeo/Christian culture...in the US it’s still the MAJORITY culture and it’s still the DOMINANT culture....and since World War Two it’s been the most SUCCESSFUL culture globally....so successful that people are willing to die trying to partake of it.

That is true, but I think Andy Jackson is complaining that some of the criticism of the current SA government is crossing the line into racialist rhetoric, and this is something FR and the conservative movement doesn't need (not to mention it being contradictory to the common origins of the entire human race in Adam and EVe).
There are people out there who would give their eye teeth to "prove" that conservatism is nothing but "white racism." It's really tragic if there are some on our side who think the same thing.

I'm not sure what this statement means in the context of this discussion, unless you're implying that the white race has been commissioned by G-d as sort of an "Israel" to rule the world. You're not one of those "British-Israel" types, I hope.

No one, and certainly not me, ever maintained that african nations don't have more than their fair share of issues. But your statment that "South Africa is as much a savage, racist nation as any there ever was" shows your total ignorance of the place.
It was Mr. B who stated "The culture of the Africans is such that working for a living is viewed as undesirable," and there are many similar sorts of comments sprinkled herein about conditions in Africa that are simply gross overgeneralizations.
So, in what sense would an American black be wrong in perceiving that conservatives were prejudice against blacks.
I have been called all sorts of things from pointing out this perception and its origin, down to early morning hours with a few biblical fundamentalists of various persuasions attempting to hold the fort.
