While Israel is interested in purchasing the fifth-generation stealth Joint Strike Fighter from Lockheed Martin, it will likely hinge its order on US acceptance of its demand that Israeli defense industries be allowed to participate in the aircraft's production, senior defense officials said Thursday.
On Monday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak met with US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and discussed potential Israeli involvement in the production of the JSF, also known as the F-35. In the past, Israeli aerospace companies have been integrated into the production of aircraft purchased by the IAF.
During their meeting, as well as a meeting last week between Defense Ministry director-general Pinhas Buchris and officials from Lockheed Martin, the Israeli officials stressed that they would be reluctant to purchase the aircraft immediately if Israeli companies were kept out of the deal.
Officials said, though, that if the price of the aircraft were reduced from the expected $130 million, Israel would be more willing to compromise in following through with its initial plan to purchase the aircraft in the coming months. If that happens, the JSF will begin arriving in Israel in 2014.
In the coming weeks, officials said, the Defense Ministry will receive an official letter from the Pentagon detailing the price of the aircraft and also finalizing some of the outstanding issues between the sides regarding the integration of Israeli defense suites into the plane, as well as allowing Israel to independently maintain the aircraft without needing to send it to Europe for repairs.

Israel wants production role in F-35, so they can, as with the F-16/Lavi, they can later sell the tech to China, or India, or Venezuela, or ...
You need to put some tough language in any contract to prevent these sorts of things.
And I need a tough editor - too much “they” in my post.
Its ok.
A simile: Obama’s supporters have been working for years to destroy the U.S. energy generation capability. John Holdren organized antinuclear activities at U.C. Berkeley which helped to shut down a brand new plant near Sacramento. While Americans are wondering, during the third coldest winter in recorded history, if we really need to shut down our energy production to protect the world from global warming, China, whose exports and manufacturing now exceed ours, came to the U.S. in 2006 to see if we, the creators of the nuclear energy industry, had anything to sell. Westinghouse in 2006 still had a core of superb engineers, though America hasn't built a new plant in thirty years. China bought four plants. In 2007 Toshiba purchased Westinghouse Nuclear. China's contract wisely included engineering rights, because China has watched our environmental lawyers lead the U.S. to energy suicide. China reverse engineered, and improved on the Westinghouse design. The original Westinghouse plants will come on line in 2011, about half the time it used to take U.S. energy companies to clear the first stage of NRC licensing. By the time the next 128 nuclear plants are on line in China, about fifteen years, the U.S. might have been able to bring one plant on line. This is what Obama and Holdren, and all the other Marxists want. Israel is absolutely right. They may survive as an independent state for longer than the U.S.
For those who don't understand how foolish the claims about solar electric are, it is easier to understand that, thanks to a judge in New Mexico, the world's largest aluminum refiner has been shut down - something to do with baby salmon and Bonneville Power. America hasn't the power to produce the aluminum - and solar energy is so diffuse that it takes enormous structures to capture relatively small amounts of energy. Were we to reach the point of trying to build industry supplied by solar electric we would have to buy our technology from China. But we will be too bankrupt to be able to afford it, and certainly not credit worthy, so that will probably not be an issue.
A better option might be to sell Lockheed to Israeli Defense Industries before Soros buys it for Barack, adding it to GM, Chrysler, AIG, and the banks. Israel doesn't have a constitution either (either because Obama and crew ignore ours, and only find it an obstacle), but I would rather trust the Israel justice system than the Sharia law we, like the British, are allowing to penetrate our legal system. Islam is church and state. Israeli contracts are still negotiable, and they have nothing against Christians or Hindus.
Well, that was a refreshingly depressing narrative of the situation for a Friday morning.
Excuse me while I put some poison in my coffee...
Not that there is anything at all untrue with what you wrote. Quite the contrary, Which makes it all the more disturbing.
And a good source of military technology for China. With allies like that who needs enemies?
Israel has lost trust from US for its involvement in providing ChiNazi advanced weapon systems. It will not be years for that damage to be cured, giving access to sensitive technology. I believe Israel should purchase F-15SE Silent Eagle instead.
They are an ally who take our cruise missile technology and try to sell it to China, take our avionics and try to sell it to China, take our radar technology and try to sell it to China. What kind of friend is that?
LOL! That is one answer to their problems — very interesting. Thanks!
The United States and the Israelis are building the Arrow missile and they already have many batteries of the Patriot missile which contain classified material. Why not give them the plane?
