BEIJING (AP) - The Chinese have learned English from his speeches and celebrated the way he rolls up his sleeves. Now President Barack Obama is finally coming, and he's being greeted with "Oba Mao" T-shirts and a statue of him that bursts into flames. Sunday's arrival of a U.S. president admired for his charisma is already a source of profit and brief fame for some Chinese.
Strangest is the burning Obama, tucked away in a Beijing warehouse. Artist Liu Bolin hopes Obama can take time from his visit to drop by.
"He's so hot right now, so I wanted to translate that through my work," said Liu, who was inspired by the idea of the first black U.S. president.
The bronze Obama bust is modeled on Time magazine's "Man of the Year" cover and is speckled with holes for gas that ignites every couple of minutes.
It's a positive work, Liu said.
"Yes, setting something on fire can have negative connotations, but this piece represents energy and life that Obama has given to the world," said the 38-year-old, who made a similar piece for former revolutionary leader Mao Zedong.
"We're eager to see what he can do for China and U.S. relations."
One Beijing shop owner wanted to see what Obama could do for sales. Liu Mingjie created "Oba Mao" T-shirts, with the president wearing the uniform of the Red Guards, who caused chaos during the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. ...

Such a fitting name.
They can make a burning Obama, but not a burning Bush???
If it’s the statue I’m thinking of......I call it ‘The Flaming Turd’.
LOL, yeah, positive, that's it - positive.
(pssst...Zero - Hillary got to China first)
Antibiotics take care of a burning bush.
Oba-Mao says it all.
“Oba Mao”
Perfect.
Oba Mao
and his cabinet of “Maosketeers”,
featuring Annetta (Anita) Dunne!
LOL!
Naaahhh! Obama thinks he’s God, not the Chinese.
I wonder is a certain, specific part of the anatomy ignites first.
Maybe we should contact the guy who created these t-shirts to see if we could produce them here for next year’s election! Maybe he could even send us a good supply of those Red Books too so we can sell them to Dems so they can wave them around at their rallies!
Can’t fool the CHINESE!
Another article that makes it sound as if the Chinese are these childlike noble savages who look to the “Big Black Bro” as a beacon of brilliance and savvy. As if they, if not for his speeches, would never learn English. I can only imagine that they mock him behind his back. As for him being similar to Mao, well, Mao was a brainless bureaucrat who wrecked the country with his exercising his mindless academic theories on the population and ‘great leap forward.’
All in all, they’ll turn out, cheer, openly smile at him, but I believe that the smiles will turn to sneers behind his back and the cheering will be done because the state requires a good turnout for a head of state, even if he (head of state) is a brainless dolt. All this ‘hype’ is the sort of thing done by every country that wants to make a good impression for the sake of diplomacy. It usually means nothing and will die out the minute Zero leaves.
After the Chinese leadership have conned him into signing some mindless treaty that either neuters the military from interfering with ‘internal affiars’ (like Tibet which is considered a part of China to the Chinese) and will effectively gain them some sort of trade advantage. They’ll stroke his ego with the possiblity of being publicly hyped as a ‘historic peacemaker who helped bring America and China together’ and he’ll do whatever they say in order to get it (the hype).
The stupidest president going to one of the cleverest countries with the most skillfully deceitful politicians on the planet. I wonder if he is going to suggest that Chinese student interns help out in the office and literally live in the White House.
