An energized George W. Bush laid out plans for his public policy institute and appointed its first fellows -at SMU today.
My colleagues Devin Dwyer and Evan Harris report on a man who didnt seem to miss flying to the APEC Conference today:
I Went Against My Free-Market Instincts
Thats what former President Bush said today in explaining why he signed off on the bailout for Wall Street calling the decision one of the most difficult of his presidency.
The former President made the remarks at the unveiling of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University.
I went against my free-market instincts and approved a temporary government intervention to unfreeze the credit markets so that we could avoid a major global depression, Bush said.
And without mentioning President Obama by name the former President did have some rather pointed comments for the current Administration claiming that generally history shows that the greater threat to prosperity is not too little government involvement, but too much

So how's that working out for you?
W was rolled.
My favorite part was when Disidente Juan McCain jumped in with the “me too” trashing of capitalism.
Well then, what else is there to do than develop a think tank so you can influence others with your sage advice.
Bush, you should never have been president. Now please go off an play golf with my blessing. Just shut the hell up when it comes to your vision of what sound policy should be.
Bush’s biggest mistake was appointing Paulson (D - Chicago), to head the Treasury.
Well, so far there is no depression...
Yeah, right!
What about the free drugs for seniors, education funding through the roof, along with outrageous discretionary spending on transportation, energy and farming? Not to mention comprehensive immigration reform. A domestic policy agenda only a liberal could support.
"Our first focus is education, Bush said. It was my top priority as governor and top domestic priority as president. (Kennedy No Child Left Behind Act--taking power away from local school boards)
(Bush)
Sir, thank you for keeping our country safe following the 9/11 attacks.
Politically and domestically, however, you left your supporters out to dry by not defending against the lies and insisting on your “new tone”.
In doing so, you allowed a DOMESTIC ENEMY to succeed you and make us more vulnerable than we ever were before.
That's whay an Ivy League Education will do for you everytime.
no matter what you think of him today...
Rots of ruck.
That in itself is a big enough mistake, so that even if there were no others, that one would prove irreversibly damaging, since waaaaaaayyyyy back in September Paulson appeared just a FEW times , passing on the most apocalyptic news, went unchallenged, and basically disappeared for more than a year. HE was the face of STIMULUS.
Well said! I am in agreement with you 100% (as usual).
‘Preciate the apology George, but it’s too late. Same for Medicare and all the other spending you blew up. How about all those non-vetos? Sorry about those yet? Don’t get me wrong, you were better than Obama, or Gore or Kerry, but how hard was that? Your liberalism energized the Dems and depressed Conservatives, and gave us Obama. Too little, too late.
This is old news.
From like - last year.
