Arrest made in slaying of 9-year-old boy in D.C. apartment [MS-13 associate]

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in the shooting death of 9-year-old Oscar Fuentes in his family's Columbia Heights apartment and authorities described him as an associate of the MS-13 street gang who was trying to rob people in the neighborhood.

Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said the suspect, Josue Pena, had followed Oscar's family into their dilapidated apartment building when he couldn't rob them outside.

Pena, of no fixed address, then shot through the door. Authorities suggested that Oscar was looking through the peephole of the door when he was killed. ...

Lanier wouldn't say why Pena decided to follow the family into the building. She said the shooting was not gang-related and that Pena was not a member of MS-13, but was associated with the gang.

D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and Lanier blasted the building's landlord for allowing the apartments to deteriorate.

So the shooter is with MS 13 and has no fixed address. Do you suppose that with three reporters on the story, one of them could have inquired as to his citizenship status?

So the landlord should have profiled against certain types of people from living there? What would ACORN say? What would Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the usual community organizers have to say?

Or is Fenty and Lanier saying that if the property had bullet proof doors this wouldn’t have happened? Maybe the landlord should have provided armed guards in the hallways?

How about blasting the perps. How about blasting the inability to control gang violence. Just a thought.
