Hundreds cheer Palin in Mich. for book tour

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — College students ditched class, employees skipped work and some huddled in the cold overnight just to make sure they get an orange wristband Wednesday that would let them meet Sarah Palin.

A line of more than a thousand people — some sporting Palin Power stickers and Palin T-shirts — moved slowly into a Barnes & Noble store Wednesday to see the former Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor on the first stop of her "Going Rogue" book tour. During the hours they waited, some broke out in chants of "Palin! Palin! Palin!"

Scores more who couldn't get wristbands awaited Palin's arrival outside, braving the cold and yelling. "USA!" and "Sarah, Sarah!" at an event that took on the feel of a political pep rally.

"She's a person of faith, she has a family, she has gone through a lot of the trials and tribulations we have. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat," said Lana Smith, a dispatcher at a bus company who took the day off work and had been waiting in line since 5:30 a.m.

"Someday I hope her name is up in lights and I'll have had the privilege of meeting her," Smith said.

The song "Only in America," a standard on George W. Bush's 2004 campaign stops, played as Palin's tour bus, painted to resemble the cover of her book, pulled up to the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids.

"I just can't tell you how good it is to be back in Michigan," the former Alaska governor said after getting off the bus carrying her youngest son, Trig. "Alaska and Michigan have so much in common, with the huntin' and the fishin' and the hockey moms, and just the hardworking, patriotic Americans who are here."(continued)

It's a left-wing, America hating, lamestream media, P.D.S. thing. You wouldn't understand.

And to think McCain didn’t want her to go to Michigan during the campaign.

You certainly are. It wasn't thousands, it was hundreds -the headline clearly says so. Who you gonna believe - them or your own lyin' eyes? :o)

“Who you gonna believe”

Mygir, gather your goons. Your squirming will provide the entertainment, as we eat your lunch and retrieve our country.

A bit of huf & puff, sorry.

According to the website "Governor Palin 4 President" there were actually 9,000 to 11,000 through-out the day.

Numbers are estimated to be anywhere from 9,000 to 11,000 throughout the day. Sarah Palin promised to sign copies of her book from 6pm until 10pm. I bet she will be there until midnight.

I posted screen shots comparing the two headlines for the same story at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2389643/posts

Hope it's not considered to be a duplicate post... If google news is tampering with the headline in order to 'diss' Sarah Palin, then that's news that needs to be reported.

They’ll start writing in base 5 pretty soon.

Notice how they start the article mentioning people “ditching” class and skipping work, already portraying them as scofflaws.

After Granholm and Obama I’m surprised anyone in MI has work to skip.

I guarantee no Obama article ever mentioned all the people who skipped work or class to go see him.

Here’s an AP article from 2004 about Clinton’s signing in NY when his book came out. Here’s some excerpts:

Eager for a few seconds of face time with their idol, hundreds of Bill Clinton’s fans lined up Tuesday near a Manhattan bookstore where he was scheduled to sign copies of his new memoir, My Life

“Bill Clinton is a rock star,” said Lynne Roberts, 37, who set up camp Monday night, nearly 15 hours before the signing was to begin. “He is our cultural icon and we miss him now more than ever, given everything that’s going on in the world.”

“I want to thank him for eight fun years where he didn’t insult my intelligence or rule by fear, like our current president,” said Scinto, 39.

Those who spent the night on the concrete said an atmosphere of camaraderie helped speed the waiting. Roberts said she played gin rummy with her boyfriend and read a newspaper before swaddling herself in a sleeping bag for a nap.

The signing was on a Tuesday in NYC. No mention of people ditching class, skipping work, etc... Just what an idol, and rock star and charmer Bill was. Made sure ot get a dig in at Bush. And of course the AP closes with someone saying they like her “christian philosophy”. No, no editorializing or bias there.

What a joke.

I’ll tell you who won’t have to skip work to get a book signed. The few hundred people who were laid off yesterday by the AP.

I saw a different headline for this story at another site, and it was the same except it said thousands instead of hundreds.

I WAS THERE IT WAS OUTSTANDING

2-3 thousand. Some waited all night.

Palin was really upbeat and full of energy smiles and just a beautifull lady. She was only supposed to sign her name but she wrote a couple of things to some folks and tried to talk to some people. She got there at 5:20 and Left around 9:30.

I predict more and more people will come out to see her at every other point on her tour. obambi will be pissed.

THESE are the kind of "wide angle" photographs that we need to get, IMHO...
...from each of Governor Palin's book tour stops...
....to PROVE the large numbers of supporters that she is attracting.
