WTF was this stupid picture doing on a worksheet?

It has nothing to do with algebra.

did the teacher Xerox it herself at the top of a worksheet?

Somebody needs to ask the teacher what he/she thought she was doing. It’s offensive and it is meant to offend black people. That was its purpose. And it did. Mission accomplished.

Apparently somebody already did, as documented a few posts above yours.

Curran reported, through Smith, that he found the image by doing a Google Images search for the phrase "multiply and divide."

Sure enough, th 4th page of GOogle i mages sends you here - about 12 or so posts down. "I chose it because it said 'no way,' which is a comment my students make when I require them to show each calculation," he wrote in an e-mail. "I had no idea that I might offend anyone. I am very sorry for any distress that this has caused my students and the community."

The pic may have nothing to do with "algegra", but it did apparently come up under a google search on "multiply and divide" (for whatever reason), and the teacher found the "No Wai" phrase amusing since it is a phrase his students use. To assume and assert that the teacher's purpose and intent in using the pic was to offend without even the benefit of looking into the background of the teacher and students demonstrates a tendency to jump to conclusions and make accusations completely devoid of any factual basis to support them.

You aren't a reporter for the drive-by media, are you?

How could you possibly know that? It could have been meant to offend mostly toothless people or people who can't spell or people who, by poor oral hygiene, insult the proud tradition of wearing straw hats and suspenders.

Or it could have been used to show surprise without any racial intent at all.
