But, even the police guy was saying yesterday in his news conference something about how we (the community) have to do something about the underlying causes of this crime....
Implying the underlying causes might include things like poverty, drug addiction, racism?? (he did not say that).
But devoids and depravity come in all colors and all backgrounds.
Evil is just what it is - EVIL.

I don't know how he meant that statement, but I would agree from one perspective.
There was a time when communities wouldn't tolerate such behavior from anyone in the community, and they didn't leave it to law enforcement to be the greatest deterrent.
Church and home was the center of the community. The attitude of decent, God fearing people who banded together in common decency and lack of tolerance for those kinds of evil deeds was its own deterrent.
The further from God people grow, the less conscience - the less sense of right and wrong, and urge to do right - they have in their actions.
Criminals are more free to commit evil, in many ways, than we are to prevent it, because we've allowed the godless, or those who want to separate man's laws from a grounding in God's laws, to change the laws that govern society according to their own "wisdom".
When man decides what is good and what is evil we get a moral equivalency that essentially reverses what is good and what is evil according to God. People get to thinking that they have the "right" to murder babies in the womb, or partially out of the womb, and that society must reserve compassion for "rights" of those who commit the most heinous of crimes - to "understand" them and why they did what they did, while ignoring the fact that their victims have received no such compassion.
Liberalism in government, and in religion, is a rot that has almost destroyed the fabric of our nation.
Hosea 4:
6: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7: As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
8: They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
9: And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
10: For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.
11: Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
12: My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.
