How many here realize the Army is now getting ready to shutter at least FOUR Heavy Brigade Combat Teams in favor of an additional FOUR Stryker Brigade Combat Teams?

Thanks - I, for one, didn't know. We always seem to be preparing for the last war. Now that we're good at counterinsurgency, people start to think the next one will be the same.

I was not aware of that at all, but I guess it doesn’t surprise me.
Back to the topic of this story - is it likely that any greater losses are occurring because of the terrain in Afghanistan? It seems to be that with the terrain being so much more severe, there would be many fewer roads, and therefore fewer avenues of approach/movement for our guys, making it easier for our adversaries to put mines in locations where our vehicles would end up.
