Gov. Tom Kean: Trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in N.Y. is a mistake

Former Gov. Thomas Kean, who served as co-chairman of the 9/11 Commission, believes the Obama administration is making a mistake to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in federal district court in Manhattan.

Below is an edited transcript of a conversation he had with Editorial Page Editor Tom Moran.

Q. I understand you oppose the decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in criminal court in New York City. Why is that?

A. It’s an unfortunate decision. First, it’s what he wants. He requested it. He’s wanted to be on the world stage for a long time, and this gives him that opportunity.

Second, it gives him a chance for a propaganda win. The eyes of the world will be on that trial, and he’ll use it to criticize us for our support of Israel, to appeal to the Arab world and make himself out to be a martyr.

Q. But that didn’t happen in previous terror trials, did it?

A. This is different. This is one of the top people in al Qaeda. He thought he was vying with Osama bin Laden for the leadership and for that reason at one point refused to swear allegiance to him. He originated the plan for 9/11 and wanted a larger plan with more damage. He wanted planes to hit buildings on the West Coast, too. The original plan was for him to land a plane on an airport and do a news conference saying this is punishment for America’s sins, and to be a martyr. I don’t want to give him what he wants.

This is the first time that military tribunals were USSC approved for these cases.

Moussaoui was captured and imprisoned here in the US.

The shoe bomber was captured here in the USA when he was captured by brave airline stewardesses on a flight to Boston.

We have never brought foreign combatants captured abroad to the USA to be tried in civilian courts.

Trying him at all is a mistake.

He should have gotten his cigarette, blindfold and bacon-greased bullet years ago.

Gov. Kean states Khalid Sheikh Mohammed requested a trial staged in New York City. Americans should not be surprised that Attorney General Eric Holder follows the orders of Al Queda detainees; the terrorists were his law firm 's clients! AGA Thomas Perrelli, former employee of Holder's law firm and #3 at DOJ, recused from the below listed cases. He was not representing the good guys in the recusals. This is just one of the AG's buddy hires! Eric Holder and company are attorney's to Al Queda. These guys can never prosecute terrorist when they represent the terrorists.

Most libs have a half understanding when it comes to terrorist activity. (”Liberalism is a mental disorder” ..Mike Savage) posessing the faulty belief infused into their idealistic mushy heads by lib profs that while Amerika is soo wrong, our criminal justice system is soooo superior because it presently fits into their socialist agenda of system destruction. That KSM’s (Kaleid Sheik Mohammed) “criminal” trial would not create havoc within the system. Because it would and they know it.. and their end, justifies their means..
