AZ-Sen. 2010: Poll shows McCain only marginally ahead (leading only among liberals, "moderates")
The Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Ariz. / Capitol Media Services ^ | 2009-11-22 | Howard Fischer

PHOENIX -- A new statewide poll suggests John McCain could get a fight in his bid for another term in the U.S. Senate.

And it would come from his own party. A telephone survey of 570 likely Republican primary voters conducted by Rasmussen Reports found McCain the favorite of 45 percent of those questioned. But former Congressman and current radio talk show host J.D. Hayworth was backed by 43 percent, well within the 4 percentage point margin of error for the poll.

Hayworth told Capitol Media Services late Friday he has not made a decision, saying he is in the "due diligence" phase. But he said the poll results have gotten his attention.

"If the scale was down at 2 this morning before we got a certain phone call (about the survey), I would say that due diligence is now at 9.5," Hayworth said.

(snip)

But Hayworth said McCain's big warchest will not be the same advantage in 2010 that it might have been at one time. He said the increasing use of the Internet, including blogs and social media, may make it easier for a candidate with limited funds to get exposure.

And he clearly already is looking for ways to make McCain's cash an issue, saying it "clearly is a large sum of money for a leading proponent of campaign finance reform."

(snip)

Pollster Fred Solop of the Social Research Laboratory at Northern Arizona University said Hayworth's numbers are not surprising. He said many Republicans do not like McCain.

"They clearly are looking for alternatives," he said.

(snip)

Younger Republicans voters like Hayworth more than their older ones. He also had the backing of a plurality of Republicans who call themselves conservatives, while McCain had a comfortable lead among liberal and moderate Republicans.

I believe this is the one primary that Sarah will not be involved in. She has too much respect for McCain, unless he goes hard left.

Having said that, the fact that she might not endorse anyone during the primary says a lot. I do hope Hayworth wins the primary and takes this seat back for conservatives.

...while McCain had a comfortable lead among liberal and moderate Republicans.

Figures that Hayworth is the favorite of conservatives and McCain is the favorite of liberals, "moderates," and RINOs.

In 2010...screw McQueeg and his little groin leeches!

Ok, suppose she does not endorse McCain. The next question she will have to answer from the press is "Ms. Palin, you endorsed John McCain for President, yet you think he should not be US Senator, doesn't that make you a horses rear ?"

Thanks for the ping Rabs, if J.D. Hayworth is as shrewd a campaigner as I think he is, he should blanket the Arizona airwaves with McCain's infamous "We have nothing to fear from an 0bama Administration" quote, while citing America's weakening position in the world, record unemployment, 0bama's antics, etc., with the kicker line "Isn't it time that Arizona elected a REPUBLICAN to the Senate to replace John McCain?"

I notice you seem to spend most of your time attacking Republicans and McCain in particular. Why is that?
