WASHINGTON – More than 2.1 million drop-side cribs by Stork Craft Manufacturing are being recalled, the biggest crib recall in U.S history, following reports of four infant suffocations.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said late Monday the recall involves 1.2 million cribs in the United States and almost 1 million in Canada, where Stork Craft is based. Sales of the cribs being recalled go back to 1993.

Nearly 150,000 of the cribs carry the Fisher-Price logo.

The CPSC said it is aware of four infants who suffocated in the drop-side cribs, which have a side that moves up and down to allow parents to lift children from the cribs more easily. The agency also said there have been 110 incidents of drop-sides detaching from the cribs.

The Stork Craft cribs have had problems with their hardware, which can break, deform or become missing after years. CPSC said there can also be problems with assembly mistakes by the crib owner. These problems can cause the drop-side to detach, creating a dangerous space between the drop-side and the crib mattress, where a child can become trapped.

Our dropside was a big help when placing a sleeping baby in it. I read the instructions when assembling.

People who are small will not be able to have a crib if this law goes through. They would have to saw the legs right off the crib which probably negates any legal protection for the parent.

millions survived the old fashioned cribs that you can't even sell anymore, let alone buy.....

we survived without car seats....

we survived drinking whole milk....

we survived sausage and bacon and eggs ...

we survived riding in cars without seat belts or in the back of pickup trucks....

I don't know about the rest of you but we used to sled ride at night without a helmet without any adults watching us, down the hill in our backyard and sometimes if it was really slick, we rode down the back yard and down the very steep street in front of our house.....( if your hands got cold, you'd go inside and find another pair of mismatched socks to wear on your hands)....

we survived....I wouldn't want to be a kid now....no fun, no adventure...everything regulated...

When I was 3 or 4 years old, I used to stand up in the front seat of my grandfather's 65 Mustange convertible.

I loved him for letting me do that. Today, he'd be arrested for it.

Prince Rupert and Vancouver, both in British Columbia, are the ports offering the fastest way for cargo ships from Asia to get containers with high-value goods onto the North American Rail system.

“I try to buy NOTHING made in China, but it is very difficult.”

Me too. If it’s not the lost jobs here, it’s the commies. If it ain’t the commies, it’s the slave labor.

Three good reasons to choose from, folks.

Stop buying so much commie stuff, darn it!
