Tea Party react: Conservatives seek litmus test for RNC funding
Washington Times ^ | 11/24/2009 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Eager to ensure that "tea partiers" don't undermine GOP candidates, conservative members of the Republican National Committee are pursuing the creation of a rule that would bar the Republican Party from funding candidates who fail a conservative litmus test.

The group is circulating a petition among committee members that would enshrine former President Ronald Reagan's proposition that his 80 percent friend was not his 20 percent enemy. The rule would require Republican candidates to share at least 80 percent of the party's main tenets to be eligible for party aid.

The resolution, if adopted, would withhold party money from the candidates and from the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee - the two party affiliates charged with electing Republicans to Congress.

"This is an '80-percent unity for conservative principles' resolution, and if some consider this is a litmus test, so be it, because as a party we must stand by our basic principles in defense of our freedom," said Oregon RNC member Solomon Yue.

It's not a very conservative test. Lindsay Graham would pass it.

I’m sure the RNC is all ready to destroy J D Hayworth should he dare to run against McCain.

As of right now RNC....go F yourself!!

They need our money. So we can withhold funds to the RNC by demanding a higher standard than 80%. We cannot continue to compromise a little here and a little there and know who we can trust to implement ALL policy conservatives support.

A “little” abortion here, and a “little deficit spending there is not acceptable any more, just so a Republican can be elected. This isn’t about party any more. This is about core values and beliefs. They still don’t get it!

No.

I would much prefer a core statement of principles and demand that RNC money only go to candidates who embrace 100% of those principles.

Gee! They’ve stopped giving us their money. Quick, feed them some pablum and eye-wash.

Abort the RINO Party.

A total joke. The RNC? RINO Lite©

My money now goes to conservative interest groups who buy whores on Capitol Hill. That's how business is done and that's how Conservatives will move their agenda. Buy the unprincipled b*astards!

WTF?!

"Eager to ensure that "tea partiers" don't undermine GOP candidates..."?!

They have it exactly upside down! This "tea partier" wants to ensure that the GOP entrenched lounge-lizards don't squander my money on unworthy candidates.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

I wish I could lay claim to a more clever explanation but the fact is I’m working on a backup machine while I rebuild my primary system. The screen flashed a couple of times when I hit the post button and I ended up posting the draft version (twice!). I’ve loaded Firefox onto it so that should put a dent in my creative spelling.

...but I appreciate your suggestion and, yes - these folks appear to be pepoles...;’}

I don’t give to the RNC. That won’t change matters. I give to candidates only. The RNC and NRCC abandoned my district last year. If you people abandoned a good man in Tim Walberg, why would I help you?

Republican loafer wearing higher ups will gladly provide lip service to ANYTHING if it will lead to additional dollars. But don’t count on these country club sell-outs to actually DO anything they swear to support.

Ooooh, boy , did I ever know THIS was coming!
Right now, there are movements ALL OVER the United States trying to figure out ways to field our OWN candidates, with the emphasis being on getting TRUE conservatives torepresent this new constituency that was always there but has deepened, spread out, and gathered critical mass during the first year of the Zero Administration. I knew better than to assume our main antagonists would be the Obama-clinging Left. A good case-in-point would be to study the little microcosmic story behind the Deedee Scozzafava/Doug Hoffman/RNC dynamic
in the NY23rd contest of a few weeks ago: you will see the RNC in all its self-defeating craven pandering back and continue to back and support with money a virtual Leftwing Liberal right up to the last moment, “folding” just a little only when the heat on them got too much. Michael Steele is the main culprit in this, supported by “grey eminences” such as Newt Gingrich, and Steele and his horde of stampeding RINOs are going to prove again to be the main culprit in this NEW project as described in the Free Republic posting above. The ONLY way to make an impression on the RNC and SHOW THEM that they don’t run the show, is going to be a campaign that tells them this, and prove to them that our efforts can have an effect on their fundraising, especially from “grassroots”. Maybe the RNC will wind up having as it main source of funding all the same selfserving sources as the Democratic Party. That will further cement my feeling that for all practical purposes they are indistinguishable, except in their rhetoric.
