The Serbian forces actually shot down a high-profile B-2 Stealth bomber.

Incorrect. It was an F-117A Nighthawk of the 49th Fighter Wing. B-2 Spirits were flying too high for modified SA-3 Goa SAMs to be downed.

Anyway, The F-35 won't be that much suited for the JASDF because of its single engine, making it less safe for flights over water, and along with combat radius. It is not the same as that of the F-22 Raptor.

How would the F-35 ever stand a chance against PLAAF Flankers or IADSes?

Rats. Wish that had been the first line so I could have stopped reading there...

They did not say if the Japanese are buying off the shelf, if this is co-production, or a blend of the two. It’s hugely, hugely important.

The best deal would have been export of a large number of fully US-produced F-22’s, with heavy black-boxing, and maintenance performed by a US company.

It is possible that this F-35 deal requires Japanese manufacturers of critical parts —maybe many parts. This is usually a security risk (per Aegis).

Wow. Another so-called “expert” already denigrating the next F/A aircraft for our services and allies. If we listened to all of these idiots we'd still be using the Wright Flyer.

myknowledge:

Why do you keep trying to compare the F35 to the F22? They are not the same and have different missions.

The aircraft's mission determines its design and capabilities.
