Sick-bags at the ready: The New York Times gushes over the Obamas' state dinner
The Telegraph ^ | 11/25/2009 | Damian Thompson

If you’re feeling queasy, look away now. The New York Times scales new heights of sycophancy in its report of the White House state dinner last night, which by their account was the most charming, imaginative, glittering – yet tasteful! – social event since Jackie Kennedy was Queen of Camelot. Indeed, it may even have surpassed Jackie’s standards, since Barack and Michelle added a deeply appropriate and thoughtful element of multiculturalism to the glamorous proceedings. And the decorative magnolia branches, I’m relieved to report, were “sustainably harvested”.

Modern Flourishes at Obamas’ State Dinner

By RACHEL L. SWARNS

WASHINGTON — It is an old tradition, a White House dinner governed by ritual and protocol that happens to be this city’s hottest social event. But at their first state dinner on Tuesday night, President Obama and his wife, Michelle, made sure to infuse the glittering gala with distinctive touches.

(snip)

There was White House honey and sage from the garden and a menu that gave vegetables and beans — including eggplants and lentils — top billing. (For a White House keen on promoting fresh fruits and vegetables, what could be more serendipitous than a guest of honor who happens to be a vegetarian?)

Sounds to me like the Obamas filled their guests with piles of wind-inducing vegetables. Hardly necessary, you would have thought.

Of course, had it been McCain doing this, that same NYT would vilify him for insulting the unwashed masses with his arrogance. Of course, unemployment would not be as bad even though McCain is a doofus.

All paid for by the American taxpayers... My My how generous we all are and we don’t even get to attend-—we just pay the bills so the ‘royalty’ can live it up with suave, chic parties at the People’s House.

“Barack and Michelle added a deeply appropriate and thoughtful element of multiculturalism to the glamorous proceedings.”

Yea, I heard they allowed a token white Christian heterosexual male to attend.

“New York Times Gushes Over Obamas’ State Dinner”

It’s really cool when brilliant, smart, intellectually superior, genius-type Democrats have a state dinner. It’s really, really cool because it shows off the superiority of genetically-advanced, really really really smart human beings who are going to save the human race because of their brilliant, really superior, intensely smart policies with the help of the really really smart, brilliant, intellectual geniuses at the New York Times.

IMHO

Does there exist a full view photo of the man some call president, where he’s not checking out his “package”?

Hey Rachel - you’ll find you can breath much better with your head REMOVED from Obama’s anal canal.

Try it sometime.

Michelle must have done a lot of canning in her leisure time.

That garden must have been friggin huge, and its amazing how they kept those bee’s on White House grounds. LMAO.

What a farce these people are.

1) No mention of the cost?

2) Were we peasants invited to enjoy the left-over cake?

3) Hitler was a vegetarian.

So is the Christmas tree I will be taking down with a chainsaw this weekend - harvested locally and sustained in my living room.

At least it was bipartisan—there was one Republican (Bobby Jindal) and two RINOs (Dick Lugar and Colin Powell) there.

Try to imagine that NYT report during the Bush administration. "And Dick Cheney personally tore the branches off living magnolia bushes with his teeth and left them to suffer!"

This whole hysterical seizure over an inflatable chow hall leaves one wondering if this social-page silliness isn't what the NYT thinks government is really all about.
