In 5 of the 7 major crime categories, Denver has higher per capita crime than Los Angeles.””

Beware of how they use the categories.

About 2 months ago, the traitor La Raza Mayor of Los Angeles declared that in 2009, Los Angeles was safer than it had been in the 60’s.

B S !!

I lived there in the 60’s and it was much safer than now.

I left in 1993, and the crime was one of the reasons I left. It is worse now than then, and I still have friends there who keep me informed.

These are FBI statistics friend.

If you like to see them, I'll be happy to show you

Or are you suggesting crimes like murder, robbery, rape etc, are just swept under the rug, go unreported, are ginned up or somehow hidden?

Not hardly.

As leftist and PC as Westword is, I’m surprised they even covered the story and amazed they included photos.

If you have a link handy for the LA/Denver comparison, please give it.

FBI stats rely on local reporting, correct? Any variation (or skullduggery) in defining crimes could be significant.

One 2005 chart shows Denver with double the forcible rape rate and double the car theft of LA. I have great difficulty believing this. How would you explain the differences? Do the LA suburbs have a higher crime rate than the Denver suburbs? Does LA crime just get more press because it's a more influential city?

Another consideration: if LA has a higher illegal population than Denver, chances are they'll undercount crime because illegals are less willing to go to the police. And if LA criminals are more vengeful and more organized, their victims will fear going to the police.

So it is possible that the Law is more respected in Denver than in LA, which means more crime violations are reported. Your thoughts?

On a tangential note, in the past decades the aggravated assault rate has gone up significantly compared to the homicide rate. This is in part because hospitals have gotten so much better at treating trauma, so fewer victims die.

Ah, found another factor in the car theft rate: Los Angeles makes the top 50 US cities with the lowest car ownership rate. Denver doesn't.

A city with fewer cars per household will generally have fewer car thefts per person, right?

Hey Dumb Ox, the last thing LA needs is more cars...hello... LA has more cars on any given freeway than the *entire* state of Colorado..lol

I'll tell ya what Denver has more of...It has more rapist, burglars, thief's, ,more auto theft, and more of those that commit larceny and assault. Just look at those rape and burglary stats....wow..

Latest 2006 Crimes per 100,000 People:

Denver, CO Los Angeles, CA National
Murder: 9 12.4 7
Forcible Rape: 60.16 27.3 32.2
Robbery: 225.2 370 205.8
Aggravated Assault: 466.5 377.2 336.5
Burglary: 1151 524.8 813.2

In fact, Denver has nearly **3 times** more burglaries, vehicle thefts, and rapes per capita, than Los Angeles.

Probably, but there are still more people without cars in LA than in Denver. So car ownership per person is lower, so it's a less target-rich environment for car thieves, so LA's car thefts per 100,000 is lower.

In fact, Denver has nearly **3 times** more burglaries, vehicle thefts, and rapes per capita, than Los Angeles.

You're missing a key word there: 3x more *reported* crimes.

Like I said, I think it's far more likely that most of the forcible rapes LA gangbangers are doing aren't being reported to the police than that Denver is so much more violent than LA.

And if you're an illegal alien from a country with a crappy government, you won't report crimes like car thefts or burglaries.

As a Denverite, the stats don't make sense to me. How would you explain the disparity between the two numbers?

I think a lot of the problem is that the LA stats are plain wrong and are more likely to miss unreported crimes than the Denver numbers. Why am I wrong?

You're another Dumb Ox that thinks rape, armed robbery, murders, burglaries and major crimes go unreported, or are somehow swept under the rug...Get real..lol...

Face it, Denver has *substantially* more crime per capita than Los Angeles, in 5 of the 7 major crime categories.

Here, maybe a colorful chart, instead of words will help you grasp this.

Denver and Los Angeles Comparative Crime Ratios per 100,000 People

Why would illegals report burglaries and rapes in Denver and not else where? lol.....Nice try slick.

Here is one image, where tens of thousands of illegals marched or Denver in 2006, making demands and threats, as they did everywhere else.

I'll see if I can find the larger image of this, that clearly shows them marching on the city, from beyond the green bridge in the background and out of sight.
