I've got one word for you: tenure.

I hope all this...inspires?...the AAUP to rethink the stranglehold tenure has on the universities in this country.

Kudos to this gentleman for speaking his mind.

Tenure is not binding when a professor oversteps the bounds of the Faculty Code of Conduct. I know of several professors who were “let go” despite having tenure. I also know of some who were forced into early retirement when the university decided that they were no longer productive. Tenure has lost a lot of its meaning in the last 10 years.

Tenure will not protect him against punishment for unethical behavior. Remember Ward Churchill.

I can't agree. Professional fraud is grounds for removal of even tenured personnel. Don't forget, tenure also protects those who are blowing the whistle on these guys.
