Huckabee Helped Set Rapist Free Who Later Killed Missouri Woman (Huckalong Huckabee)
ABC ^ | 11/30/2009 | MARK SCHONE

Posted on 11/30/2009 11:28:35 AM PST by tobyhill

Any political ambitions of former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee could be hurt by his role in freeing Maurice Clemmons, the gunman suspected in the execution murders of four police officers in Washington State -- especially since Clemmons would not be the first criminal Huckabee helped to free who later committed murder.

Clemmons was serving 95 years when Huckabee, then governor of Arkansas, commuted his sentence in 2000. Clemmons is now being sought in the murders of four Lakewood, Wash. police officers, who were ambushed and shot in a coffee shop Sunday morning.

Four years earlier, Huckabee also pushed for the parole of rapist Wayne Dumond despite chilling testimonies from victims and their relatives that he was a dangerous criminal who would strike again. Ashley Stevens, a 17-year-old cheerleader when Dumond raped her, told ABC News in 2007 that she put her face inches from Huckabee's and said, "This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond, and I will never forget his face, and you will never forget mine. He's the one that raped me."

Actually, the quote is:
... said she tried to persuade Huckabee not to shorten the sentence for Dumond.

“I told [Huckabee]: If you ever let him out, he’s going to do it again,” she said in an interview.

She was able to get a meeting with the governor - who, she said, had not spoken to her before announcing his intention to commute Dumond’s sentence - but realized Huckabee had “made up his mind.” So Stevens stood up, she said, walked over to Huckabee, who was seated on a sofa, squatted down and thrust her face inches from his.

“I said, ‘This is how close I was to Dumond’s face for an hour,’ “ Stevens recalled. “ ‘I’ll never forget his face, and you’ll never forget mine.’ “

The parole board - following a closed meeting with Huckabee - decided to let Dumond go. The following year, Dumond committed the Missouri slaying. He died in prison in 2005. "

Hey Chucklebee, that makes about as much sense as shoes on a centipede. Yeah, it’s a cheesy slap at his good-ol-boy sayings.

Huckabee didn't release him after he raped a child!

Let's see who is responsible for that!

Huck is done.

He’s probably gonna have to get honest work, if anybody will hire him.

huckabee can’t even survived the first controversy that comes his way, how on earth will he survive running for president. He be slaughtered by the media. Huckabee’s choice to release unrepentant criminal is very troubling. Will he release Bin Laden after capture?

Huckaby? Isn’t he the fellow who just announced he’d not run in 2012?

I thought his crime as something other than rape, aggravated robbery or something?

If Huck pardoned a rapist, I'll have to rethink my view.

I really can’t understand the man’s motive for wanting to free such violent criminals. I have listened to him on TV (not a fan, mind you, just listened) and he seems far to levelheaded to do such a thing. His actions definitely do not match his persona. Not defending him, it just means that he is not what he appears to be.

Guess it’s not good to have the name “Michael” and run for president. ie Dukakis.

Makes me wonder, what in the world was in it for Huckabee? Any sensible politician might have known these decisions could come back to bite him in the a$$. Unbelieveably bad judgement on his part.
