Obama wants Afghan war over in 3 years, officials say (CUT AND RUN)

Washington (CNN) -- President Obama intends to conclude the Afghanistan war and withdraw most U.S. troops within three years, according to senior administration officials.

Obama is sending 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan and ordering military officials to get the reinforcements there within six months, White House officials told CNN Tuesday.

Obama will travel to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, later Tuesday to officially announce his plans. It would to be his second escalation of U.S. forces in the war-torn Islamic country since he came to power in January.

The president also is seeking further troop commitments from NATO allies as part of a counterinsurgency strategy aimed at wiping out al Qaeda elements and stabilizing the country while training Afghan forces.

The expected new troop deployment would increase the total U.S. commitment to roughly 100,000 troops in Afghanistan, bolstered by about 45,000 NATO forces.

Some one has to pay all those bills for the democrat base. Otherwise, they'd have to get their own jobs. If they did that, they'd be Republicans. Oh, can't have that!
They gotta get the money somehow. They might as well blame the war. Wall Street was blamed for the democrats trillion dollar reelection slush fund. Insurance companies are being blamed for death care's massive expenditure. Businesses are blamed for their Cap and Tax UN pay offs. They're running out of villains to blame for their theft, and the war just happens to be there.

Remember......Obama is "uncomfortable" with victory in Afghanistan. He will guarantee that it never happens on his watch.

I pray to God that we can commence IMPEACHMENT for TREASON on Jan 2, 2011.

I am a Vietnam vet as well. The war really began under LBJ. We followed a policy of gradual escalation and allowed the enemy sanctuaries. We never fought to win the war. And we never responded when the Paris Peace Accords were violated. We also cut funding to the South Vietnamese who fought on two years after we left.

Knowing it up front is worse than laboring under the illusion that we seeking to win. If we are on a glide path to get out of there in three years regardless, why be there is the first place? We need to set concrete objectives, i.e., the mission, and achieve it without setting artificial deadlines.

“yet another lib makes the mistake of thinking you can put a war in a timeframe.”

I don’t have much problem with putting a limit on how long we stay there. The real question is, why were we on the verge of defeat eight years after the war started? Was Bush following his military’s advice? And if he was, why do we now think anything will be different in three more years?

Obama’s Afghanistan Speech Will Focus Blame on Bush and Cheney

It’s the only way Obama can hold onto his lunatic, far-left fringe base without saddling himself with losing the war. The trouble is, he’s not listening to the generals. —RL

I agree with this statement.

This is disgusting by leaps and bounds. Not content to screw the population of Americans here he screws the military every chance he gets. Not sending enough troops, don’t allow them to do their jobs when there, prosecute .. er .. persecute them when they get back
and now telegraph to the enemy when you are leaving so they can sit back and wait to move in when we leave.

A village in Kenya is missing it’s idiot.

Putting a time limit to win a war against a very dangerous terrorist enemy is the utlimate strategy for defeat. The coward does not have the courage to fight and win the war and he is using our troops as a political tool. Our enemies in Afghanistan and elsewhere know that he is a coward and they have been greatly emboldened by his cowardice, defeatism, and lack of leadership. Because of this they are going to do us a lot of harm. There is a reason why the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated so badly in the last 10 months. The terrorist enemy was greatly emboldened by the coward in the White House.

God bless all our brave troops. They need our support now more than any other time because our new Commander in Chief is a coward with zero leadership who is using our brave troops for cheap political gains but he never intends to win the war. Once the going gets tougher, and it will, the coward will stab our brave troops in the back and he will fold as cowards always do. He did it before when he betrayed our brave troops in Iraq when he was a Senator and voted against the surge that defeated Al Qaeda terrorists there. He will do it again when he sees a political advantage in it.

I'll try to keep an open mind, but the current details don't sound encouraging. Unless Obama succeeds in passing the major legislation for turning the country into another "worker's paradise" with a state-supported press, the press is going to turn on him.

It'll be interesting to watch how the troop buildup goes through congress. Hope it helps to derail his shitty domestic agenda.
