THE scientific consensus that mankind has caused climate change was rocked yesterday as a leading academic called it a “load of hot air underpinned by fraud”.
Professor Ian Plimer condemned the climate change lobby as “climate comrades” keeping the “gravy train” going.
In a controversial talk just days before the start of a climate summit attended by world leaders in Copenhagen, Prof Plimer said Governments were treating the public like “fools” and using climate change to increase taxes.
He said carbon dioxide has had no impact on temperature and that recent warming was part of the natural cycle of climate stretching over billions of years.
Prof Plimer told a London audience: “Climates always change. They always have and they always will. They are driven by a number of factors that are random and cyclical.”
His comments came days after a scandal in climate-change research emerged through the leak of emails from the world-leading research unit at the University of East Anglia. They appeared to show that scientists had been massaging data to prove that global warming was taking place
The Climate Research Unit also admitted getting rid of much of its raw climate data, which means other scientists cannot check the subsequent research. Last night the head of the CRU, Professor Phil Jones, said he would stand down while an independent review took place.
Professor Plimer said climate change was caused by natural events such as volcanic eruptions, the shifting of the Earth’s orbit and cosmic radiation. He said: “Carbon dioxide levels have been up to 1,000 times higher in the past. CO2 cannot be driving global warming now.

Al Gore says the polar bears are dying because of the melting icecaps.
In reality, it is exactly the opposite. Were the icecaps not to melt each season, the polar bears and penguins would all die. When it is frozen, there is nothing to eat. You can’t just break through six feet of ice to get to your food.
So, global warming would actually help increase both polar bear and penguin populations.
If man-caused global warming were a scientific certainty, they wouldn’t have to fudge their data—which is exactly what they have done.
I care alot about the planet I’m leaving my children and their descendants. But this hype is NOT about the environment. It is 100% about money and governments increasing their control of our everyday lives. Bottom line: the people pushing “climate change” are stealing YOUR freedoms for a buck.

The opposite of an insane position is not a contrary insane position, but a careful and rational position. Either this professor is misquoted, or he is being hyperbolic. The current level of CO2 in the atmosphere is 387 ppm. 1000 times higher is 39%. While that might be fine for plant life, I can tell you as a former submariner, you start to suffer at C02 levels of 1%, and would not want to live at the level for long periods of time.

Needless to say, the NY Slimes and the ComPost are not eager to admit they were wrong. In fact the Slimes was complicit, up to its armpits with CRU.

You need to reconsider your math.PPM does not equal%. 10000 ppm is equal to 1%. 1ppm = 1/1,000,000.

Or to do it your way, 387 ppm *1000 is 387,000 ppm, which usint 1000ppm=1% turns out to be 37.8%
1000 times higher is too high. Regardless, tree ring models are useless as demonstrated via “hide the decline”. The reason they are useless could be caused by rat farts in the past just as by humans now as the Goreonians insist. Bottom line, temps can’t be determined by them. Go back to the gravy train drawing board.
Pilmer is a smart guy. I’m sure he was talking 1000PPM where CO2 has been for long periods of time on Gaia in the past without runaway anything.
