HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (CBS/AP) Jamar Pinkney Sr., the 37-year-old Michigan father who allegedly shot and killed his teenage son because the boy told him he molested a 3-year-old girl, will pursue an insanity defense, his lawyer said Tuesday.

On the same day, a judge in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park ruled that Pinkney Sr. will stand trial on first-degree murder, assault and firearm charges.

Not defending the father, but I think most people know that sex offenders don't get better, are not treated harshly by courts (especially if they are 15). There wasn't going to be any justice in this case, and the son would be out and committing more sex crimes in a very short time.

If people do not trust the courts to dispense justice, they then feel the need to appoint themselves judge, jury, and executioner.

I'd like to see a tougher justice system so that I would not have to see stories like this one.

Yes. If my child molested one of my other children, I would put him down like a mad dog. Probably with my hands around his throat.

I know, you’d hold him and cry. You’d fix him. You’d allow one of your children to molest another of your children, and then allow him to be loosed upon society as a whole.

IIRC, Marvin Gaye’s father did this too and is currently serving time for killing his son. (Not because of molestation)

By the way...if “murder is murder is murder” then you must be a pacifist. War is murder, right? Self defense is murder, right? The death penalty is murder, right?

So either you’re a pacifist and a “war protester” and follow that concept to its natural conclusion, or you actually do believe in the concept of a justified killing...just in this instance you don’t think it was justified. Shades of grey.

So basically you believe that some poor dumb bastard 6 months off of the farm, who is fighting because rich politicians sent him to war, can be destroyed in any number of ways, but to kill someone who molested your little girl is wrong. Or you believe all killing is wrong. It must be confusing in your head.

She’s most likely going to be ruined for the rest of her life. She may be able to forget it, since she is so young, but just like a dog that remembers the feel of the master’s boot it will never leave her. The memory of a male family member causing her pain will last forever, even if it is buried so deep that she never consciously realizes it.

So basically this beast thought his temporary pleasure was worth ruining her entire life. I’m glad he is dead. My only sympathy lies with his victims.

I want to know who exactly conferred the right upon you to murder your own child. Who gave it to the other father? Anyone who would do such a thing doesn’t deserve to have children.

And anyone who molests a child should be dealt with harshly by the legal system. If the system is broken, fix the system. Murdering your own children doesn’t solve anything.

I wouldn't. But I would turn him in to the police without hesitation. I would not be confident about how the case would be handled, but going through legal channels seems like the only acceptable way to approach it.

And if my son got out eventually, I'd watch him like a hawk until the day I died, and I'd notify the police if I thought he was up to no good.

I place a lot of importance on family -- but I won't tolerate evil.
