So now it comes to you throwing all sorts of scriptures at me. Fine, go ahead and do so. I can take the same scriptures and throw them back at you since I believe that you are in the wrong, believe the wrong gospel, and are not following the teachings of Christ while I do. What is your point.

I have seen your tactics before and find them rather useless. Carl Mosser and Paul Owen talked about these tactics in their article that I mentioned and said that they don’t work.

You see, I believe what I believe is right and I have reasons for believing it. I have studied many religions for years and have asked God to help me find the truth and He has lead me here. I believe that God has led me here for a reason, but you are telling me to go another way.

What it seems to me is that you are saying “Hey, trust me to lead you to the truth.” Why should I trust you?

Why haven’t you asked me to pray about the truthfulness of things you have said? Do you think God doesn’t answer my prayers or that He won’t?

I know that you poopoo the concept of burning bosom, that it’s not biblical, but it is. Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road? (Luke 24:32) Apparently, this is one way that God lets us know truth, a burning in the bosom or a burning heart.

So, how am I to know that whatever you are teaching me is the truth, or a perversion of a truth?

If you going to use scriptures to try to convince me that you are right, please explain why these scriptures say you are right. By just throwing a boatload of scriptures at me without taking the time to explain them only tells me that you aren’t really interesting in taking the time to explain what you truly believe. Why don’t you want to take the time? Is it because you just want to take the minimal effort to prove that I’m wrong instead of showing me that you are right?

So, please don’t just cut and paste scriptures and expect me to agree with you since I don’t know how you truly interpret them.

Also, when are you going to answer the question I asked at the end of my last post? I think it’s very important.

Jhn 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

I don’t post these facts and I also don’t see you nor any of you anti-Mormons posting those facts.

BS....These stories are posted all the time on FR.

Interesting how you separate "true christians" from mormons. Not surprised though.....

Yeah, nice to also see you rip and row...but then wish us all a "merry christmas"...

How nice.....

When I say “’true’ Christians,” because they act the same way the “true” Jews, or the Pharisees, acted. They have decided on their own that they are “true” Christians, not God.

As for ripping and rowing, I am only doing what “true” Christians have shown me by their actions. If you want me to behave differently, then show me “differently.” Any who, ripping and rowing and then wishing Merry Christmas are much better than spewing ones anger at another and saying that it was all done in love and in God’s name.

BTW, here that question that I asked and am really hoping to get an answer: “Why would I want to listen to you and those who practice this same type of denigrating love that has been rendered worthless and impotent? “

I often wonder what religious denomination the Mormon-haters currently belong to...my guess would be Baptist or “non-denominational”...would be interesting...magritte

Elsie said: “I’m saying that the MORMON idea of this is NOT how it was described in the bible[sic].”

I say: “Well Elsie, your idea of God and salvation is NOT how they are described in the Bible either. There are more scriptures than the Bible. The Bible doesn’t say that it’s complete nor perfect. Your point is?”

Osage, maybe you can answer these simple questions that nobody else wants to answer. Maybe you have the courage and the honesty to do so:

Why would I want to listen to anybody who treats me with great disdain and attempt to destroy my beliefs with anger, bitterness, and hate and then they tell me that I need to be like them?

Why would I ever want practice this same type of denigrating love that has been rendered worthless and impotent?

Why would I ever want to have such debasing and ungodly emotions and attributes in my life?

I don’t know which denomination they belong to. I don’t know if they have the courage to tell us. But there is one thing I do know, I sure wouldn’t want to belong to a denomination that is so filled with anger, angst, and loathing. I have yet to see any Christ-like love or true caring in any of their posts.

I have told them that if they truly want to convince me that I am wrong in my beliefs, then they need to make a few changes in their tactics, but they continue to do the same things over and over again, hoping for the results to change. Doesn’t that sound like the definition of insanity or stupidity?

Just to be fair...my friend.

I've had mormons tell me I was stupid, and wrongheaded to give my life to Jesus.

I don't have disdain for you personally....Frankly I'm not responsible for you, and your eternal life. You are responsible. And only you.

I do think you are a member of a cult, though. And pray that you find the truth.

If you think that my post is hateful, loveless, in anger or worse..I'm sorry you think that.

So what if a some Mormons tell you that you’re wrong, I get told that by “saved” Christians all the time and I don’t go around exposing the “evilness” of their beliefs.

What I have been basically trying to do here is say “Look, I agree that Mormons make mistakes, but don’t Biblical/Traditional/Mainstream/Evangelical/Fundamental Christian make the same mistakes also, but it seems to me that most of the posters on this thread are so focused in the the evils of LDSers that they don’t notice the same problems exist within their own denominations.

To me, they are attempting to distract the reader from their own problems by pointing out the problems of others.

I get told over and over again that Mormons are trying to kills the spirituality of good people, but then again, I get told in the next sentence that only God and save and that none of our works can never, ever, affect the outcome. If God wants somebody saved, there is nothing that can stop that person from being saved and if God doesn’t want that person saved, the dude is bound for Hell, no matter what that person does. So, how can something I do ever kill the spirituality of anybody if only God can do that. I could preach and spew vileness all day and all night, yet, according to what many saved Christians have said, I can do nothing to ever unsave one single soul and if somebody who was “saved” denies the faith and rejects God, then that person was never really saved.

I live in the Bible-belt and some of my best friends are born-again Christians, one was even a Baptist minister who was my neighbor. He would invite me over occasionally to help him prepare sermons and his congregation loves him. My friends and I never tear each other’s beliefs down nor so we point out the mistakes/inconsistencies of them either. We decided a long time ago that if we were ever going to convince each other that we were right, we had to convince them that we were right and not that their were wrong.

I have asked for people in most of my religious discussions to do that, to show me why they were right and not why I am wrong, because by doing the former, they can then easily do the latter, but by doing the latter, they are even beginning to do the former.

I have had born-again Christians spew hatred and self-loathing all over me and my family and all that does is to convince me even more that they aren’t teaching me the truth. These born-again Christians tell me how happy they are, but all I hear from them is anger and bitterness. They tell me they love me and that is why they are being so mean and so hateful. God has told us that our fruits are important, but I only see poisonous fruits coming from these people.

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, told us to not hide our lights under the bushel, but I haven’t seen too many people shining any light on this forum when it comes to discussing Mormonism. Do they think that Jesus would have us shining our lights for all to see or would he rather have us hiding our lights under the bushel, acting like the Pharisee praying in the temple, and then pointing out how evil somebody else is?

Throwing scriptures at me doesn’t do any good either. I have read all those scriptures before, probably more than most born-again Christians ever have.

I find the words of Krister Stendahl, the former Dean of Harvard Divinity School on how to treat the beliefs of other very useful. They are known as the Stendahl’s 3 Rules of Religious Understanding:

(1) When you are trying to understand another religion, you should ask the adherents of that religion and not its enemies.

(2) Don’t compare your best to their worst.

(3) Leave room for “holy envy.” (By this Stendahl meant that you should be willing to recognize elements in the other religious tradition or faith that you admire and wish could, in some way, be reflected in your own religious tradition or faith.)
