Folks flying this Christmas imho, MUST, have criteria already in their minds as to
1. UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS THEY WILL AND WILL NOT REMAIN ON A PLANE.

2. AT WHAT POINT THEY WILL BEGIN TO PHYSICALLY RESIST, FIGHT, ACHIEVE CONTROL OVER JIHADI'S WHO'VE SURFACED IN DANGEROUS WAYS ON SUCH TRANSPORT.

3. HOW THEY WILL MANAGE TO ACHIEVE CONTROL OF SUCH JIHADI'S.

4. ESTABLISH IN THEIR MINDS WHAT THEY MUST LOOK FOR . . . including Jihadi's who are not Middle Eastern looking. LOOK FOR SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR--not just race, ethnicity cues. Security FREEPERS hereon can list such behavioral cues better than I.

5. HAVE FIRMLY in mind a layered set of communications to aircraft personnel from "I'M CONCERNED ABOUT __________ IN SEAT(S) XYZ BECAUSE __________" to "I'M UNCOMFORTABLE STAYING ON THIS PLANE AS LONG AS . . . " to "I insist on getting off of this plane as long as . . . "

6. SCOPE OUT FROM THE MOMENT YOU SIT DOWN FOR 10 SEATS ALL DIRECTIONS THOSE WHO MAY BE OF AID TO YOU AND THOSE WHO MAY BE OF MOST HAZARD TO YOU. Make eye contact with the probable good guys. If the passengers contain some concerning sorts of members . . . make more than eye contact. Make some statement like . . . "We are in this together, it seems." or "You look like one of the good guys." or "Glad someone like you are on here with me." or "I'm glad you're sitting near me." Their response(s) will tell you how much you can or can't likely depend on them.

7. Have some water and a snack in your carryon. Have a Bic pen that's rigid and sharp. A pencil might do. Think through distractions and other actions that might be wise to necessary to take. The smaller patriots might even communicate to helpful larger types that the smaller folks will distract while the larger folks take action.

8. INSURE that you have your wills updated (with living will with you re life support equipment and contingencies) and good bye letters written and left with suitable folks back home. We just never know in this era. Have been carrying mine in my backpack everywhere for more than 25 years.

9. Other than that, have a nice flight. LOL. Actually, being prepared can help calm one considerably in a variety of situations. Being prepared does NOT mean one has to sit on pins and needles. Better to be alert but with inner peace.

10. TO THAT END, MAKE SURE YOUR CONFESSING UP; REPENTING UP; AND FORGIVING OF OTHERS IS UP TO DATE. MAKE CERTAIN YOU ARE RIGHT WITH GOD AND MAN AS FAR AS IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO BE. Ask God for extra angelic protection. TRUST THAT HE IS WITH YOU REGARDLESS. SEEK HIS GUIDANCE IN ALL SITUATIONS AND CONTINGENCIES--THEN FOLLOW IT TO THE LETTER.

I’d think it was quite a risk re hand searches, though.
There are less . . . risky items one can take. Maybe not quite as effective but useful.

Sounds like you’re on top of it.
. . . that you’ve calculated the risks and are comfortable with them.
Others less . . . clever and . . . experienced . . . would be wise to use other means and not clumsily copy your suggestion, imho.
Clumsy in such matters is not quite wise enough, imho.
Folks need to . . . take measures consistent with who they are as persons . . . such that they don’t alert extra scrutiny because of their anxiety cues about their measures etc. etc. etc.
I also have wondered . . . given the number of times I was pulled aside for an extensive search on my return from Asia, . . . was I targeted because of my FREEREPUBLIC POSTINGS? Quite plausibly.
