Single Asian carp found in Chicago-area fish kill

LOCKPORT, Ill. — Wildlife officials discovered a single Asian carp Thursday in a canal leading to Lake Michigan, the nearest the destructive species has come to the Great Lakes, Illinois environmental officials said.

Environmentalists fear that if the silver or bighead species of giant Asian carp reach the lakes they could starve out native fish species and devastate a $7 billion-a-year fishing industry.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials found the 22-inch immature specimen among tens of thousands of dead fish identified in a fish kill operation in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, about 40 miles from Lake Michigan, said John Rogner, assistant director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Can't tell for sure where they did this. I think it may be just up stream from the Romeoville electric fish barrier. If so, even one carp is not good news.

It just wanted to do the job that American fish won’t do.

Who knows if they really found one. They had to atleast claim they did to justify posioning the canal.

Those carp are already in Lake Delton near Wisconsin Dells in Wisconsin - they drained the lake while wackoenviros were busy trying to save them and then release in some other river/lake...

Another ‘enviro-wacko’ genocide.

It sounds pretty crazy to kill every species in the river to stop another species from killing every species in the river. ???

Its the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal (sewage canal). Doubt if anyone would eat any of the fish.

“Concern about the silver or bighead species of Asian carp led to calls even before Thursday to close the waterway connecting the lakes to the Mississippi — an unprecedented step that could disrupt the movement of millions of tons of coal, grain and other goods.”

(snip)

“Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and five environmental groups have threatened to sue the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to force it to temporarily shut three shipping locks near Chicago because of evidence the Asian carp may have breached the electrical barrier.”

So the woman that has helped to destroy the economy of Michigan is now poised to disrupt and destroy the economies of other states now by closing off a trade route. These people are insane.

My husband and I are divers and we’ve seen the damage that carp have done in inland Wisconsin lakes. Many once beautiful lakes are now moonscapes; no weeds and no other fish, just large carp. Carp are a real danger to Lake Michigan.

Yeah, not many would want to eat the fish from the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. But it sounds like using a 12-gauge to kill a fly.

Its a lot cleaner now than it used to be. In the past, fish in the canal would not have been a problem.

Daley Plaza, specifically to Mayor Daley's office.

Where does all of Chicago's crap go? We send it to New Orleans.

But when we get way more sewage than the system can handle, we divert it first to TARP. (Tunnel and Reservoir Project)

TARP has been so successful, they've now built one on the east coast for the overflowing volumes of **** generated by Wall Street investment banks. Merrill Lynch was a particularly big generator, their waste is called ...

Yes.
BUT...this wonderful little donation of “globalism” to the waterways
of Flyover Country is like “Aliens” and will basically keep eating until
all the native species are gone.

Nothing wrong with the ringneck pheasant that came from China and
gave us a healthy industry of pheasant hunting out here in flyover country.

But this @#%#$^#$% carp is like a monster from h-ll if you like fishing
for any of our native fish.
