It wasn't exactly a Captain Sully Sullenberger moment, but a Southwest Airlines flight crew helped bring about the miracle of life Friday morning.
A woman on a flight between Chicago and Salt Lake City went into labor and quickly gave birth before the plane could make an emergency landing in Denver, airline officials said.
The flight, Southwest 441, was scheduled to fly to Boise after stopping at Salt Lake City. Southwest officials say it appears the woman and her family were on their way here. It is not clear if the woman and her family are from Boise or visiting.
"Whoa," Captain Gary Jesperson said after the airplane finally made its way to Boise. "We were enjoying a beautiful day and the weather. Then (a flight attendant) said we have a woman going into labor. I'm going, 'OK, that changes things.' "

Bet this baby has a birth certificate :).
So what’s the fee for the extra 6 pounds of baggage or extra seat?
Free trips on SW Airlines.
I’d be willing to accept a BC from a President that was born 30,000 feet ABOVE America.
Not like the FRAUD we currently have...
i wonder what will be given as “place of birth”.
Seat 32A??
Seriously, what a blessing!! Best wishes for the family.
Haven't you seen the commercials? Bags go for free on SWA.
......Copied from KTVB.com, “It is not currently known where the woman was from, but according to the doctor, she was due to give birth in January. And she had planned to give the baby up for adoption. The couple planning to adopt the child was waiting at the Salt Lake City Airport.” <<<<<<<<<<<<
The above was in the comments following the original article. Can you imagine the adoptive parents getting that call and meeting their baby at the airport?
LOL! Typical pilot understatement.
The adoptive parents were waiting in Salt Lake City for the young mother’s arrival. I’m guessing they high-tailed it to Denver right away, when the flight was diverted!

You caught what I didn’t, that they were waiting for the flight before the baby made an unscheduled arrival. What a surprise to find out the baby was born! Sounds as if Mom had planned to spend the end of her pregnancy with or near the adoptive parents.
