EDITORIAL: The enemy at West Point
The Washington Times ^ | 12-04-09 | The Washington Times Editorial Staff

Insults against West Point by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews are part of a pattern of left-wing denigrations against Americans serving in uniform. It's a motif indicative of an anti-military mind-set that is as dangerous as it is rude.

Discussing the West Point audience's response to President Obama's speech about Afghanistan, Mr. Matthews quipped on Tuesday: "I saw a lot of, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn't see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there that the president chose to address tonight. And I thought that was interesting: He went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case. I mean that was where Paul Wolfowitz used to write speeches back in the old Bush days. That's where he went to rabble-rouse the 'we're going to democratize the world' campaign back in '02. So I think it was a strange venue."

I’d love to see the comments, but you have to register. Chris Matthews is an idiot.

If you believe that West Point is “enemy territory”, what does that say about who’s side you’re on Chris?

American execptionalism is at the foundation of the West Point ethos

Its more than just “ethos.” It is the rock solid foundation of our country. Obama saw it, and it unnerved him, and his speech rang hollow , and was so obviously
stupid, picayune, self serving when confronted with the “ethos” of these West Point cadets.

Obama walked away knowing that his socialist agenda- Alinsky plan can never succeed in America. Obama was thoroughly shaken, as he should be.

If Obama and the left want to socialize and communize America, they will have to pay the blood price of civil war, and conflict. Obama saw that in that field of gray, and walked away from it a shaken man.Obama’s very world was quaked by what he saw and felt at West Point.

I am very glad that happened in front of a nation entire, which voted for a romantic notion, and received in return a surreptitious national socialism for its caring about race.

That gray field shook Obama. It was populated by the best and brightest of America, and its ranks are well seeded with people of all the races of the world. You bet it shook him. Obama saw in his their eyes, the complete defeat of his socialist agenda.Obama no longer believes.

Matthews picked up on it, and revealed a fundamental truth about Obama, not about West Point.

Well, the $hit head did apologize (he was forced to). He’s still a $hit head. Wonder how his brother stands him.

Imus is removed from the air for his “Nappy headed ho” comment and Matthews offers a milk toast apology and gets to go right on spewing his anti-military crap.

The best thing to remember is that any one of these cadets could take Matthews down to the ground in a heartbeat. And then the tingle down his leg would be his own micturation.

look at that face.

look at those eyes.

Look at that mouth.

I see anger, bitterness, hate and an all around nasty person. YOU SIR are the enemy camp. NOT West Point. You can only WISH you could have been like those fine young men in the audience. You could only WISH.

I disagree. The anti-military mindset is an indication of the contempt the Left harbors for the liberties the Constitution specifies.

He only apologized because he had to, I firmly believe that. I think he really believes what he said, and he would have let it stand if his bosses would have let him.

I agree with your post; it is beautifully written and dead on target. I saw a still shot of uhbama looking out over that sea of grey and his face was the genuine face of contempt so overflowing that is distorted his features. I will never forget it...the shot above in this thread is a 100% different look, and I am glad there were moments of levity at gorgeous and austere West Point ( We buried my father-in-law there several years ago, the campus is breathtakingly beautiful.)

Go give a speech there, Sissy Chrissy—see the response then.

I agree with most of what you wrote, but I’m not as sure as you are that zero got it. Well, whatever, what will be will be, and as someone on Freerepublic has said, we’re already in a cold civil war.

His brother is a Republican who ran unsuccesfully for political office in Pennsylvania, IIRC.

Matthews is such a mental dwarf. I doubt he uses the right side of his brain simply because it is titled “right”.
His comment on West Point was really out of line. I am reminded of “The Caine Mutiny” and tend to think of Barney Greenwald’s talk about Captain Queeg he made to the officers of the USS Caine. He speaks of how that while there were going to fancy colleges, working good jobs and generally showboating around, the Captain Queegs were guarding this fat dumb country. For us, the service was not good enough and we knew we could not make any money in the service.

For Mathews, the military is below him and his dignity. I’d like to remind Cris Mathews that he has a lucrative job running his mouth because a bunch of rednecks with a Prussian mentality provided that opportunity.

Beautifully written and very insightful. I hope with all my heart you’re right about Obama seeing it. America did.

It's not that I don't think zero saw it, it's that I don't think it will affect him in a positive way for our great nation.
