Skip to comments.EDITORIAL: The enemy at West Point
Posted on 12/04/2009 5:25:30 PM PST by GOP_Lady
Insults against West Point by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews are part of a pattern of left-wing denigrations against Americans serving in uniform. It's a motif indicative of an anti-military mind-set that is as dangerous as it is rude.
Discussing the West Point audience's response to President Obama's speech about Afghanistan, Mr. Matthews quipped on Tuesday: "I saw a lot of, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn't see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there that the president chose to address tonight. And I thought that was interesting: He went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case. I mean that was where Paul Wolfowitz used to write speeches back in the old Bush days. That's where he went to rabble-rouse the 'we're going to democratize the world' campaign back in '02. So I think it was a strange venue."

Matthews is in the “enemy camp”.
I’d love to see the comments, but you have to register. Chris Matthews is an idiot.
If you believe that West Point is “enemy territory”, what does that say about who’s side you’re on Chris?
Its more than just ethos. It is the rock solid foundation of our country. Obama saw it, and it unnerved him, and his speech rang hollow , and was so obviously
stupid, picayune, self serving when confronted with the ethos of these West Point cadets.
Obama walked away knowing that his socialist agenda- Alinsky plan can never succeed in America. Obama was thoroughly shaken, as he should be.
If Obama and the left want to socialize and communize America, they will have to pay the blood price of civil war, and conflict. Obama saw that in that field of gray, and walked away from it a shaken man.Obamas very world was quaked by what he saw and felt at West Point.
I am very glad that happened in front of a nation entire, which voted for a romantic notion, and received in return a surreptitious national socialism for its caring about race.
That gray field shook Obama. It was populated by the best and brightest of America, and its ranks are well seeded with people of all the races of the world. You bet it shook him. Obama saw in his their eyes, the complete defeat of his socialist agenda.Obama no longer believes.
Matthews picked up on it, and revealed a fundamental truth about Obama, not about West Point.
Well, the $hit head did apologize (he was forced to). He’s still a $hit head. Wonder how his brother stands him.
Imus is removed from the air for his “Nappy headed ho” comment and Matthews offers a milk toast apology and gets to go right on spewing his anti-military crap.
The best thing to remember is that any one of these cadets could take Matthews down to the ground in a heartbeat. And then the tingle down his leg would be his own micturation.
look at that face.
look at those eyes.
Look at that mouth.
I see anger, bitterness, hate and an all around nasty person. YOU SIR are the enemy camp. NOT West Point. You can only WISH you could have been like those fine young men in the audience. You could only WISH.
WHO is his brother????
>> It’s a motif indicative of an anti-military mind-set that is as dangerous as it is rude.
I disagree. The anti-military mindset is an indication of the contempt the Left harbors for the liberties the Constitution specifies.
He only apologized because he had to, I firmly believe that. I think he really believes what he said, and he would have let it stand if his bosses would have let him.
I agree with your post; it is beautifully written and dead on target. I saw a still shot of uhbama looking out over that sea of grey and his face was the genuine face of contempt so overflowing that is distorted his features. I will never forget it...the shot above in this thread is a 100% different look, and I am glad there were moments of levity at gorgeous and austere West Point ( We buried my father-in-law there several years ago, the campus is breathtakingly beautiful.)
“I saw a lot of, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn’t see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there ..”
Go give a speech there, Sissy Chrissy—see the response then.
I agree with most of what you wrote, but I’m not as sure as you are that zero got it. Well, whatever, what will be will be, and as someone on Freerepublic has said, we’re already in a cold civil war.
His brother is a Republican who ran unsuccesfully for political office in Pennsylvania, IIRC.
Matthews is such a mental dwarf. I doubt he uses the right side of his brain simply because it is titled “right”.
His comment on West Point was really out of line. I am reminded of “The Caine Mutiny” and tend to think of Barney Greenwald’s talk about Captain Queeg he made to the officers of the USS Caine. He speaks of how that while there were going to fancy colleges, working good jobs and generally showboating around, the Captain Queegs were guarding this fat dumb country. For us, the service was not good enough and we knew we could not make any money in the service.
For Mathews, the military is below him and his dignity. I’d like to remind Cris Mathews that he has a lucrative job running his mouth because a bunch of rednecks with a Prussian mentality provided that opportunity.
Beautifully written and very insightful. I hope with all my heart you’re right about Obama seeing it. America did.
How wonderful that is...since, this man is not even an American...he should be shook to his core...
It's not that I don't think zero saw it, it's that I don't think it will affect him in a positive way for our great nation.
I did not attend the USMA...
I went to Great Lakes, Illinois...
United States Naval Recruit Depot...
or words to that effect, it was ‘85, so...
but I too learned the value of three little words...
Honor, Duty, Country
everyone hears it, but who listens??
The simple truth is...
your character is defined by what you do when nobody is watching!!
I think you're being way too kind to zero. He may have been shaken, but in my opinion that just means a half step backward in preparation for 2 steps forward in distroying democracy in this country.
I agree with you. Semper Fi.
Drugs is all that’s keeping him from a complete mental meltdown...
I’m glad this editorial was in the Washington Times where it will get some coverage. As a Dad of a combat soldier who has fought 2 1/2 years in Iraq (CIB and many other recognitions), one deployment in the heart of the elections N. of Baghdad (Baqubah, one of the hottest spots) and to hear our cowardly congress call them such vile things I could easily resort to [ insert appropriate comments here ] if I cross trails with these pathetic fat a** politicians.
Someday, somehow, these congress scum must feel our anger, they must, it is what we owe our loyal servicemen and women. They have been disenfranchised, slandered, insulted and belittled and worst of all BETRAYED, we must take their cause up as they fight for this UNGRATEFUL country in ugly, violent places.
Liberals are held to a different standard by the MSM. So Matthews will NOT get the Don Imus treatement.
His bosses at MSNBC don’t see anything wrong with Matthews’ comments. They may be concerned about controversy being generated, but do not find the comments themselves objectionable.
Overbite says he has a purdy mouth.
“that gray field shook Obama”
Powerful words and I wish I could believe you’re right.
But I’m afraid that that sight of the Long Grey Line has only enraged Obama. And he can empower his rage without the slightest need to display any physical or moral courage. As commander in chief he can demand the resignation of any in the chain of command who disagree with his agenda in Afghanistan or anywhere else. He can send federal agents after his critics with his only fear being the 2010 or 2012 elections and it looks like he doesn’t care what happens to House or Senate Democrats in 2010.
Please tell me I’m wrong.
Wow, post #6. My dad graduated from West Point in 1936. When he passed away in ‘80, they put together an obituary chronicling his service and sent us copies. I learned more about my dad then, than I had throughout our time together (seven kids, everyone on the ‘economy’ plan).
My impression of Obama’s speech was like something out of Star Trek- where star fleet officers are asked to attend a speaking engagement by an alien of a not-so-offensive appearance. Judge him by his words. A body language expert would have a field-day with this speech.
The best thing to remember is that any one of these cadets could take Matthews down to the ground in a heartbeat.
You ain’t sayin’ much at that! I am 65 and I could probably slap Chris Matthews to the ground with one good backhand.
On Top Is Old Tokey
On Top Is Old Tokey
A known user of snow
And weve lost our republic
Cause the voters are slow
A votins a pleasure
Oft endin in grief
Cause a false hearted potus
Is worse than a thief
For a thief will just rob you
And take what youve saved
But a false hearted potus
Will make you a slave
Slavery will destroy you
And you will go bust
There aint a Muslim in twenty
A poor voter can trust
Hell use and abuse you
And tell you more lies
Than crossties on the railroads
Or stars in the skies
Lets throw out old Tokey
Old Tokey so high
So the birds in the heavens
Wont hear our sad cries
On top is old Tokey
Well acquainted with blow
And weve lost our republic
Cause the voters are slow
Cause the voters are slow
Apologies to the memory of Red Foley
Can you find that picture for me? I’d really appreciate it.
People keep trying to make excuses for obama and his equally inexperienced team, but fail to understand the basics of who he is and what he believes.
It's humorous for anyone to think someone like obama, who doesn't like or believe in capitalism and free markets, is going to fix our economy, help businesses and lower unemployment. But then again, they believed him when he said he wasn't going to raise taxes and voted for him.
I absolutely cannot stand to look at this man’s face or listen to his voice!
Hey Barry: “pride ALWAYS comes before the fall!”
Those “boys” look like men next to Obama. That guy is pathetic.
Those swept away brought the nation more than they bargained for, a nationalist socialist wolf in sheep's clothing who now has cast away his camouflage by treasonous conduct abroad, and nationalization of our economy at home to ruin it.
These sorts of things lead to deep divison and civil war. One prays that the electoral process will be a viable, honest substitite, for if not, we will be at war, a people at war with their own government. The die is cast. The current misconduct through non-feasance of Republican Senators on the so called "health bill" assures it.
And does he have the rage to do that? Let him bring it on.
Duty, Honor, Country! Obama knows nothing of this alive moral force which electrifies our nation as Americans. He, in his self centered, intemperate insouciance, has underestimated us.And it will cost him dearly. It will destroy him.
No, that was apparent in seeing this carpet bagger present to the best of our nation. He left a shaken man. Chris Matthews understood that , and he bridled.
Excellent, insightful post. You nailed the explanation for 0bama’s dyspepsia Tuesday night.
So do the girls.
Your insightful reply gives me hope.
For the time being,Obama is `up-armored’ by the media and the majority in Congress. But he is in horribly over his head concerning just about everything that being President requires. And that can’t be good for this country.
Is it possible that when Obama faced the Corps of Cadets, he saw the real face of America staring back?
And thiose cadets are of both democrat and Republican pursuasion, all dedicated to duty , honor and country. Obama was like a toad in the midst of royalty pretending to be their equal. He clearly was not, and that was the defining moment on display for all to see. Even democrats saw it, like Chrissy "leg tingle" Matthews, he with the big mouth, who had to draw attention to the self evident.
he has an ugly, spitty mouth.
Really? Did not know that. Thank you.
