Experts call for end of (Canada's H1N1) vaccination program
The Ottawa Citizen ^ | Dec. 5, 2009 | Sharon Kirkey

With H1N1 poised to enter history as the least deadly of four global flu pandemics, some experts are calling for an end to Canada's mass vaccination program.

Nature is already achieving what we would hope to achieve by vaccinating, they say.

~snip~

Fisman can't understand the rational for continuing mass vaccinations. He said that for a virus as contagious as H1N1, less than 30 per cent of the population needed vaccination to reach a critical level of immunity.

~snip~

Despite that view, Canada's top doctor this week pleaded with Canadians to get vaccinated if they have not already done so.

I'm surprised Obama hasn't shut this guy down yet.

Whether he is right or wrong, he's ruining the whole New World Order thing, isn't he?

In the USA, it turned out to be the school disease. Children in schools and families who lived with them seemed to get it more than others.

>> “less than 30 per cent of the population needed vaccination”

I suspect the agencies are not keen on disclosing the best methods for managing outbreaks, including the theories and data that back up the opinion I quoted above.

There are risks with the vaccine. There will be a certain number of people seriously harmed but public health officials will weigh the numbers benefited to say the vaccine is worthwhile. But if you are the one left paralyzed, that is no excuse.

Somehow sacrificing some healthy people for the benefit of the collective just seems creepy. It seems they need to improve vaccines and stop accepting this human sacrifice to the nature god.

Let’s say there have been 25 deaths worldwide due to the H1N1 vaccine (after doing some web searching I think that’s probably a way overestimate, but let’s use it anyway for the sake of being generous.)

So far we have 9,634 confirmed H1N1 deaths worldwide, and that number is now increasing by over 1,000 every week.

That’s nearly 400 flu deaths against every ONE death from the vaccine.

Given that you have probably about a 95% chance of protection if you get vaccinated, and that 73 million doses have been made available in the US, most of which have probably already been distributed, I’d say you’re much better off with the vaccine.

I also rely on the opinions of the people who live and breathe this stuff every day - the flu experts at the pandemic flu forum. And believe me, they have some people there who really know their stuff. There’s the odd dissenter, of course, but the vast majority of the “flubies” have no doubt that you’re better off with the vaccine.

In terms of personal experience, I work with 6 people who got vaccinated this week. One had mild headache and a bit of a fever from the vaccine for a couple of days which has now gone away. The other 5, if they experienced any symptoms at all from the vaccine, it was a bit of runny nose.

My wife and I are going to get the vaccine this week.

"My wife and I are going to get the vaccine this week."

Hey....how about you get back to us AFTER you've had the vaccination.

If we don't hear from you, we'll feel free to assume the worst. ok?

Update: I see information that at least 40 million Americans have gotten the vaccine so far.

Meanwhile, US deaths from the H1N1 flu have almost certainly passed the 4,000 mark by now.

Just check in a week or two to see if I’m posting. I go through periods when I post more, and periods when I post less.

But honestly, your post is fearmongering at its best. More than forty million Americans have gotten the vaccine already. If you live in a town of 100,000 people, have you noticed around 12 or 13 THOUSAND people dropping dead from the vaccine? If you haven’t, I think you can safely assume I’ll most likely be all right.

Fact is, I really don’t see any way that not getting the vaccine isn’t riskier than getting it.

But feel free to disagree. After all, people generally tend to first decide what they want to believe, and then go out and look for evidence to back up their pre-conceived belief.
