>>>Stevens said the woman, who is expected to face assault charges, was upset over the teacher’s disciplinary tactics with her child. <<<

BTW, this is typical in the modern classroom.

Every year I get a couple of kids who think that they know every legal restriction for myself and my behavior, while they can do and say whatever they want at whatever moment during class. It is my good fortune that I have administration that backs me up whenever these little thugs come into my classroom, and my fortunate heritage that I was raised back East and had a rough time in early adulthood so I can scare the living crap out of them without even raising my voice.

Other schools are not as fortunate, though, and the insane run the asylum.

This is a good time to argue for complete privatization of schools; I would thrive. In a private school, students would have to abide by my standards of conduct or get the boot. And you have no idea how many of the students would wish that the minority of criminal malcontents would be quickly exited from the system.

Once I had a parent call me because she didn’t like the way I had talked to her little darling. She was loud and abrasive, just like her daughter. Finally, she said, “What if your son came home and said his teacher had talked to him like that?” I told her that I would have punished my son for disrespecting his teacher. Boy, did that conversation stop suddenly.

You have one example of a mentally ill homeschooler from 2007 and you want to hold that up against all the junk that happens in public schools everyday?

I would like to read more about this. I am wondering why there was an unlocked door. When Sassy went to school there was never an unlocked door. If a parent wanted to bring cupcakes for birthdays they had to leave them at the office. Parents were not allowed in the classrooms unless it was the day the school allowed you to visit. To be a class mother a background check was needed.

“There may be a good reason the mother was so angry. I didn’t find it in the article. Therefore, I wouldn’t be too quick to judge the mother.”

I will be that quick. I’ve seen far too many self indulgent, lazy, irresponsible parents who seem to think that school is nothing more than a babysitting service and that their little darlings should be allowed to do whatever they please in the classroom.

And maybe somebody can remind me about all the homeschoolers involved in shooting up public schools.

You know, like the ones who pull a fire alarm and wait outside and pick kids and teachers off as they come out the door?

Oh, wait a minute, that wasn't a homeschooler you say?

Although no one has the right to do something like this, I wonder what prompted such anger in the mother?
There may be a good reason the mother was so angry. I didn’t find it in the article. Therefore, I wouldn’t be too quick to judge the mother.
Whatever the (real or imagined) provocation, it's apparent that the mother didn't do herself much of a favor by canceling her meeting with the principal and "going postal." Sometimes, tho, people stew long enough about something that they lose the ability to control their emotions. And then stuff sometimes happens.

It seems to me that the parent felt helpless to work within the system, and that therefore the system needs the flexibility to accommodate the parents and the children. That flexibility must include acceptance of school choice - yea, unto the choice of homeschooling.

The parent who really loses confidence in the school must be presented with options, not a diktat. An acquaintance of mine told me that her daughter - who in grade school was a star athlete and a good student - talked about dropping out of high school. But our school district doesn't have its own high school, and allows its students to select one of three different public high schools. So her mother pointed that out, and she simply switched her selection to a different school. Presto! Her grades were back up and she was starring in athletics again. Most Americans would have had to move to achieve that result. Isn't it pretty stupid to want your child to be captive to a particular school district?

They should ban staplers.

You can take my stapler when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

A man without a stapler is a subject.

A man with a stapler is very organized.

I think the vote was more like 110% for Obama.
