The Fulton County Board of Elections has certified election results that make former state Sen. Kasim Reed Atlanta's mayor-elect.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the board certified Tuesday's election result at about 12:25 p.m. Saturday, officially declaring Reed the winner.

With 84,383 votes cast, Reed beat city councilwoman Mary Norwood by 715 votes, or 0.84 percent. State law says a candidate who loses by less than 1 percent of the vote can request a recount.

Somewhere I thought I saw that of the votes cast on ELECTION DAY, Norwood won....but the provisional ballots put Reed over the top.

I guess it doesn't matter much, unless a Georgia FREEPer can put some perspective on this race.

I figure the entire city of Atlanta is a liberal thugocracy, so one lib mayor is probably as bad as another.

Norwood won the election of election day but she did not get 50% of the vote so there was therefore a runoff election last tuesday. Reed has won the runoff by less than 1000 votes. Its basically a black versus white thing with more blacks than whites in Atlanta so Reed wins.

The kicker is that the election board has already “certified” their winner, despite the fact that a recount is required.

Unlike what the article says, it isn’t merely that the other guy is allowed to request a recount—when the margin is that tight (<1%), a recount is automatic.

But the election board has already certified their winner...

You people actually expected the Atlanta City Commission to allow a whitey to become mayor? Yeah, right.

to combat the "provisional" ballot scam and the "lost" ballots scam, Pubs have to mail in their ballots on the last day and near the last hour....

rats will not have a number to aim at....
