Over the years, Shatner has been a guest several times on Howard Stern's radio show.
One topic that often comes up is that some of the members of the Star Trek cast hated Shatner - but he comes off on Stern's show as a great guy - really funny and able to laugh at himself. He's one of my all time favorite guests on that show.
His opening of the American Film Institute tribute to Star Wars George Lucas is a riot...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEZVwQptvWw
An ex girlfriend of mine worked on Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country and during filming she described Shatner to me as being the most unliked person on the set. The animosity on the set towards Shatner was constant and palpable. According to her, he was mercilessly mocked, ridiculed, and generally despised by pretty much all of cast and crew who'd worked with him previously.
As a longtime fan of Shatner at the time, I simply refused to believe that the ultra-cool hero of my youth,"Captain Kirk", was in reality the workplace jerk.
Did you know Rush and Howard Stern have the same birthday - wild huh?
