NEW YORK (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union has lost a quarter of its yearly donations after a major donor cut off $19 million in annual donations because of economic difficulties. David Gelbaum, a wealthy California conservationist, said he was indefinitely stopping the donations that had made him the New York-based group's largest anonymous donor

Well . . . if he is not going to dummy up more cash, then the ACLU has no reason to further protect his privacy. And going public with him might pressure other anonymous donors into keeping the purse strings open.

Funny you should say this. Every time I hear about politicians and others jet setting around the world for these conferences (yes, including the romp in Copey-hagen-das) I say to myself: “These fools are supposed to be so smart but they haven’t even heard of tele-conferencing”. Then I remember, if they tele-conferenced they’d miss out on the free grrrrls available to them everywhere where they are not home town boys.
