You mean joining your party which you are party chairmen of, being independent does not mean switching parties, but good try.

Sure it is our right, but we should not assume that the majority of independents are conservatives. The problem is that they seem to be an ideologically ill defined group that can go either left or right. When polled on specific issues, independents usually come off to the right of the average Democratic voter, but tho the left of the average Republic voter. The article may be bad news for both major parties, but it is not automatically good news to conservatives.
