More than 100 motorists stranded on Thruway

More than 100 motorists are stranded on the Thruway between Dunkirk and the Pennsylvania border, locked in by blowing snow since 1:30 a.m. when the Thruway closed.

State police have managed to make contact with many motorists, and "there are no medical emergencies at this time," one trooper told The Buffalo News.

Many motorists stuck in the snow have been in contact with state police by cell phone. State police on ATVs and Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies on snowmobiles are trying to reach the stranded motorists.

"We can't get aviation up in the air because of the poor visibility. But anyone who knows of someone stranded with a serious medical condition should call our headquarters at 716-836-0240," State Police Capt. Michael P. Nigrelli told The Buffalo News.

We need to stop this global warming as quickly as we can. Copenhagen can't come fast enough.

Everytime there’s a big push for the global warming scam, God’s sense of humor takes over and He gives us freezing temps and tons of snow.

Amen!

I get the feeling that this year will be a 1977-78 redo in sooooo many ways.

1977 was Buffalo’s famous blizzard that buried houses and paralyzed the city for two weeks. That was the first time the President declared a blizzard hit city a disaster area.

Carter sent his son to my hometown to see the situation. They took him to a nearby neighborhood to watch them digging out a large snowplow that was buried in a 15 foot drift. Within several hours of Carter’s son getting back to DC, the disaster area was declared.

The “blizzards on the east coast in 1978 were puny compared to the 1977 Buffalo one.

Global warming in that part of NYS could actually result in more snow. In warmer winters, Lake Erie does not freeze over, resulting in greater opportunities for lake effect snow when the cold winds blow.

I knew it was one of those years.
We had friends in Tonawanda who showed us pictures of the tunnel out of their house.

Understanding that we went in July, the kids thought that would be great fun.

I really don’t want to see it, ever, in my lifetime.

I grew up in Orchard Park,NY(south of Buffalo).
It is impressive when that lake effect snow comes off of lake Erie. It can snow 3” in an hour = 2-3 feet in a day.

The Thruway(I-90) runs right along the lakeshore and they get total whiteout conditions on that highway.

I remember the Blizzard of 1977. Three feet of snow and 75mph winds. Schools were closed for a week. We were out on snowmobiles , ripping right down the steets and roads. I remember driving right over a car that was buried in the snow.
I also remember the MSM telling us we were going into a 2nd ICE AGE.

Hubby had a hunch and took yesterday off. Good thing as he takes the 400 out to work and it was a huge mess with cars off the road everywhere.

When I was a kid, we traveled the East Coast with my Dad who was a salesman.

Everytime we passed that sign, I had to sing “Hail, hail Fredonia.....” from Duck Soup.

Drove my parents nuts.

>>I also remember the MSM telling us we were going into a 2nd ICE AGE.<<

ME TOO!!!!
I lived in Cleveland. The snow was up to the top of our four foot fence.
And we were on the West side. Not in the East where the snowbelt is.

LOL. So true. It happens every time. Every time. Perhaps a little b*tch slap for the warmists’ arrogance.

Very true, which is why places like the upper penninsula of Michigan and the Tug Hill Plateau north of Syracuse, NY get so much snow.

We have a Nissan XTerra Off Road.

I am looking forward to getting doctors and police officers to work when it DOES snow.

Don't worry though, I am not one of those stupid SUV types that thinks that because I have a four wheel drive vehicle that I am invincible.
