American country singer Toby Keith says he won't apologize for supporting U.S. war efforts just hours before performing at the annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
Keith says he supports American troops who "fight evil" abroad and that he stands by President Barack Obama's decision to send more troops to Afghanistan. Obama is this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

They arent diametrically opposed. There are tons of libs in the Nashville scene -Toby, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw. They are all actors playing a part.

is the statement of a lot of Democrats (not liberals and certainly not socialist/communist. most would rather work for .50 than take a $1 from the government) I know. Especially in the south and midwest area. The Republicans for a long time were seen as the big wigs up top (much as they are perceived today) and the Democrats were for the ‘working man’. FDR, in his misguided policies really did endear him to the farmers and factory workers who were struggling the most. I see some of this same mentality today with Republicans wanting to solve the problem long term, which is necessary and no one wants a longer depression, but doesn’t do much when your kid is risking losing their home. FDR did things that was felt immediately and it had reached the point of there not being anymore time to work on long term goals when you are hungry. For that, many were grateful and voted on that gratitude passing the praise for Democrats on down to their children.
So, I feel better about Toby and thanks again for posting.

Don’t think thats true. He wasn’t thrilled with MCCain but said he would probably vote for him because of Palin....indicating that he likes Palin.

As a guy who lives there, writes songs (which don’t fit the formula for the “hits) and plays little venues around town, I have to agree. Put on a hate, get yourself some boots and write songs about pickup trucks, fishing and the troops. Do a lot of, “Ma’m, I’m just so country” - and bore the dog doo out of me.

I know he’s a Dem, etc., but I can’t imagine a “progressive talk” radio station using that as bumper music...
Seriously. I spent college in Lubbock and we got Cross Canadian Ragweed, Pat Green, Wade Bowen, Stoney LaRue, Steve Earle, Willie, and the like. Some of those are libs, somes might be conservative. It dont matter, they are good. There is passion in the music and lyrics.
TK, Paisley, Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins and so on all have the same damn songs out there. And I dont think I can take another “inspirational” song like Mountains from Lonestar or another “family song” like LoneStar and Daryl Worley make anymore. It just seems disingenous.
Btw, I have Larry Mahan boots and wear wranglers, but it is because they are comfortable and I do stuff outdoors.
It is getting to be where Nashville music is as formulaic as rap (are Lil Jon and Timberland the only rappers who can structure a synth beat with ABABCB song styles?)
Id like to hear what you write (I write my own as well) because the independents tend to have better music/lyrics.

Thats a great post Raider Sam. I was born in Post. A lot of the ‘country’ that comes from the Nashville music machine is pop-centric mush with a hook. There are a few exceptions. They get guaranteed air time from the PR machine and create their own market thru repetition. They are very good at it. Glad to see your list of original artists. Sounds similar to mine and many others here in Texas.

I like leaving the politics outside when it’s time to play songs, as it sounds like you do, too. Yes, I have some very first hand experience of being told what the “formula” is. Just this week as a matter of fact and by some of the top folks. It’s OK with me that I probably never will fit into that box. A younger guy asked me about my songwriting and I said, “I just try to write songs I won’t feel stupid singing”. Haven’t seen you for a while...Good to read your post and hope you’re doing well. Pretty spot on analysis of the cookie cutter Nashville scene, which is why I haven’t been down to Bobby’s etc. lately. Depressing to hear that even Toby Keith has gone over to the bad side. Maybe he can cut ‘mama bush’ for his next cd. I can just hear him singing “condoleeeza..how do you sleep at night”. I know you know who I’m talking about. I leave the room whenever that particular moonbat takes the stage. Look forward to seeing you soon. I’ve got a new hat, and a bunch of new pickup truck/fishing songs I want you to hear. Just remember, Tn. is still a red state.

Yeah, but you actually DO fish and love it as a man loves life itself, my friend. I’ve missed you coming around, too, man. Last night, Bobby’s was surprisingly crowded for such a cold evening. But a hot guitar would have warmed up the room even better, you know? You need to bring yourself on down! We’ve never had a problem ignoring the occasional dingbat, right?
Got a hat and a pickup too! But I’ve been locked up with this cd for awhile and didn’t want to break the “flow”. I’ll be down there soon to see some of my conservative brothers! I really like Radney. I have a lot of friends from Okie State and TAMU as well, and the one thing we can all agree on is Red Dirt/Texas Country, however you want to call it.
The new music is very pop centric. Also, they write songs using lyrics about Creedence Clearwater or Peggy Sue, and these guys are not much older than me (25). Im pretty damn sure Kenny Chesney was not making out with anyone named Peggy Sue listening to Proud Mary in the mid 80’s.
I agree, if someone wants to write those songs, go for it. But if you wouldnt sing it, you shouldnt write it (Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, for instance).
I used to have a BR recorder and did some songs, but now that I have a Mac and Pro Tools, I just need to upgrade to record my own. I dont have a site, I mainly have just recorded for my friends. And I just write whatever makes sense at the time, so I have some country, some 50’s Rock n Roll, some bluegrass, and even some Godsmack Heavy Metal. Its more fun for me to write what you feel like than trying to write the perfect stylized song.
I own but can figure out how to use this Roland Boss CDR myself. I usually end up having to go somewhere else to actually get the demo. A digital dinosaur. One thing I love about Nashville is the number of places where a writer can go play live for folks.
Yeah, for being in the computer generation, Im not real tecnically savvy myself. I had the BR532, I believe, and it was good. I just had to get something to convert it to a WAV then MP3 file.
I would love to see the Nashville nightlife. Im in Dallas, and some good bands came from here, but the majority of local clubs/bars are punk rock bands and thrash metal, and Im just not very into that.
This 900 will burn a CD internally so I was hoping that if I ever got it to disc I could just use the disc to put it into I-Tunes. Will that work? If not for the songwriter venues I go and play, I probably wouldn’t even go out much at all - and surely not to hear bands that are more often than not too loud to listen to anyway.
