Its believed if Annise Parker wins Saturdays runoff, it would make Houston the nations largest city with an openly gay mayor. I did not realize that Houston was bigger than New York City.

I no longer live in Houston but Parker has already won citywide elections as Controller and is the more conservative of the two candidates.
Also, her opponent Gene Locke has been endorsed by Steven Hotze which may have been the kiss of death for Mr. Locke.

What’s the big deal?
Nobody ever said Gay’s were incompetent or stupid.
What difference does it make if Houston’s Mayor is gay. she isnt hearing confessions or giving out Communion.

I would like to Judge people by their abilities.
However ,your response caused me to think more on it.
Can she separate that power from her homosexual lifestyle?
Kevin Jennings cannot. Barney Frank cannot.
I cannot argue with you on this , you say it crudely, but you could be right.

Openly gay implies unabashedly leftist politics. When someone is advertising their leanings to that degree, chances are their policies will be even worse (see:Obama Regime.) In this economic climate, this spells catastrophe. Regardless of what the candidate says, their interests are vested with the left, not what's right.
Houston, you do have a problem...

Technically, Bloomberg is not "openly." He does have a "beard."

Mike Bloomberg is straight. Big time.

Houston is a big melting pot of hispanics (legal or other), gays, displaced libtard left-coast professional whites, blacks (oh sorry, african-americans), and a minority of normal people (i.e., any ethnicity republican-leaning conservatives). Just look at Sheila Jackson Lee (cell phone townhall queen - are you listening) and Al Green, who represent Harris County districts.

Houston per se is a Democrat stronghold with Republicans and Conservatives living in the surroundings cities that make up the Houston Metropolitioon area.
Taxpayers perfer not to live within the city limits.

I believe most if not all of the minorities that fled New Orleans after Katrina now reside in Houston.

Bloomberg is not the only mayor NYC has had in the last 30 years.

Houston, you do have a problem... No, Houston does not have a problem as the city could have a gay mayor, a black mayor, a white mayor, a Hispanic mayor, a Republican mayor or a lesbian mayor and Houston would remain as one of the best large cities for business in the country.
In Houston, property values have remained stable, unemployment is lower than in other large cities and the city is growing.

Well, the same applies to Koch. His beard was Bess Myerson. And I hate to say it, but he was a better mayor than Bloomberg.
