Houston, Texas has become the largest city in the United States to elect an openly gay mayor after City Controller Annise Parker was declared the winner of a runoff election tonight. Social conservatives fought her election, funding a campaign aimed at turning out likeminded voters to support her opponent, former city attorney Gene Locke. But Parker's endorsements from labor, police, women's, gay rights and other groups were echoed by the Houston Chronicle, the area's major daily newspaper, and her campaign ran a superior get-out-the-vote effort.

My first reaction... YAAWWWNN - who cares? This is news?

On a lighter note, this must be fallout from the thousands of New Orleans refugees that poured into Houston after Katrina. Guess they taught the local populace how to hold back the floods by sticking a finger in the dike, and now that advice has influenced the vote for mayor.

The Montrose does not have enough people to turn an election and the Montrose has far fewer people than Memorial, Kingwood, Briargrove, Meyerland, Clear Lake and the entirety of the western and northwestern suburbs.

Locke, like Ray Nagin built a coalition among blacks and white conservatives. That formula works in New Orleans, but not Houston.

Preachers like Osteen and “churches” like Lakewood are a big reason the homosexualists are taking over. The popular church has abandoned the preaching of holiness, for the preaching of covetousness and has lost most of its influence on society.

Most of the church is like salt that has lost its savor and is being trampled by the world.

People constantly downplay, up front anyway, her lesbianism, saying fitness for the job is what matters. But she is certainly an activist for sodomy, as most homosexual politicians are, and she will be leveraged to the max by the most radical, fringe homosexual activist groups in the United States.

Just like with Øbama, I have a feeling the duped Houstonians will soon have buyer's remorse after the inevitable, unimaginable filth washes over this city with the mayor's blessing.

Just one more reason stacked on many other good reasons why I got out when I did. It’s gotten to where I hate to even drive through that city anymore.

Many confuse a Philadelphia church with a Laodicean church. We are living in the lukewarm Laodicean era where Christ's return is imminent. Many who view Mr. Osteen from a distance and/or don't read his books confuse his ministry with the lukewarm Christ-less, faithless, cross-less, bloodless message of the apostate church. (I wasn't sure about him either until God helped me to take a closer look.) His ministry is biblically based, founded on scriptural doctrine, anointed, and infused with faith, hope and love.

The pharisees of Jesus' day hated him because he didn't condemn people the way they did or follow their religious dictates. They also envied him because so many followed him. Crowds or the lack thereof neither qualifies nor disqualifies a ministry. "By their fruits (not leaves) you shall know them." Inspect Osteen's fruit and see what you come with. Pharisees are notorious leaf inspectors. No different with the pharisees of today. Our notion of holiness isn't necessity God's holiness. Jesus is the revelation of the Father and his holiness.

Maybe not. Maybe God has someone else in mind to help her come to the Lord. He just happens to be in her vicinity and many receive the Lord through his ministry. Nevertheless,I have no doubt they'll be praying for her (and Houston).

If she went, she'd experience an anointing of worship, faith, hope, love, and the Good News of the Gospel of peace, God's Word. One thing she won't get is condemnation for who she is. Jesus notoriously looks past the sin (his blood allows him to do this) and see the need. Typically, homosexuality is the result of early-age rejection in some devastating form or other. God, by his power, grace and love, can reach these people. I pray He'll reach her.

Oh yeah....If this were San Fransisco this would be evil and satanic! But since it's Texas, it's just A-OK. ...

We don't care if she's some kinky twisted homo deviate... She's our leader!

Houston is predominantly Democratic. Close to 25% black and 1/3 are Hispanic. Over 60,000 of its residents identify themselves as gay or lesbian.

What the hell happened to Texas? This tells me how really effed this country is.

if homos want to be married and have that then why are they not all flocking to MA and other crap holes up north.

This is TX and the GOP had better wake up and realise that pandering to queers is not working.

Either talk about their homo ways and their agenda or just go and join the left in their perverted agenda.

shutting up is what they want, show some photo’s and videos of how they act, what their agenda is and folks will wake up.

Also she got the black vote but I bet they have no clue about her.
