Sorry, but you are wrong. There’s no written law that says he gets to drink for free just because he’s Ben Roethlisberger. As a former server myself, I can tell you that no matter who the hell you are, you offer to pay. Nine times out of ten, you’ll be comped anyway. But if you act like an ass and just walk out, the bar will be entitled to call the cops.

He can ask, but if he has to ask, the bartender is either stupid, or a jerk.

With cellphones and texting these days, he’s right, he draws more of a crowd than a band would draw. And the club PAYS the band.

Obviously you’ve only been a server and not an owner.

As a server, you don't necessarily own the bar but are stuck doing the heavy lifting for whatever celebrity happens to be there. As a college student I served John Everett (Rams) at a restaurant one night. He was great and left a great tip.

I always cheered him when he played.
